Unsigned Senior Scout Blog

5 players who are currently uncommitted but we do not envision it staying this way for long. A power bat who can play on the corners or behind the dish mixed with 4 other seniors you'll see up the middle of the diamond.

Definite players from Ontario that have the tools and ability to be impact at the next level.

Nathaniel Ochoa SS / 3B / Notre Dame Catholic, ON / 2022

Report: Ochoa recently decommitted from Purdue and the 6-foot-4, 205-pound shortstop now ranks as one of the most intriguing uncommitted seniors in the country. He has added strength and is starting to fill out, which has helped him tap into some additional power while the running form looks smoother as well. While Ochoa didn’t swing the bat particularly well in Florida earlier this month with Team Canada, he was still able to make an impact with his patience at the dish. Ochoa’s really starting to show some maturity in his game and it is hard to deny the body and dream on what it will be.

Greg LaChance SS / 2B / Anderson Collegiate Vocational Institute , ON / 2022

Report: LaChance really jumped onto the scene this past summer and the toolsy middle infielder was a standout on Canada’s NorthEast Senior Games team in August. He ran a sub 7.00 60-yard dash at the event, was barreling balls all weekend long and flashed actions and arm strength at shortstop. It’s a quick, level swing from the right-side for the 5-foot-11, 195-pounder with a gap-to-gap approach. LaChance has a well-rounded game and the bat has stood out all the summer. He takes bags at will and plays the game with a High IQ. The twitch and athleticism he brings to the field everyday makes him hard to go unnoticed or impact the game.

Matthew Donnison RHP / OF / St. Paul Catholic, ON / 2022

Report: Donnison is a right-handed arm that impressed earlier this summer at the New Year Open and has always been an arm with lots of upside. Donnison worked with a clean and short arm action in the back and fired off fastballs in the zone ranging in the 83-86 mph. He has always had the ability to spin the curveball and snapped off some legit ones that were in the low 70's range with 2200 - 2250 spin rate on them. He throws strikes, competes, and has a high ceiling that the stuff is only going to get better and play up.

Jacob Miller C / 3B / ONeill CVI, ON / 2022

Report: In his first stint with the Canadian Junior National Team, Miller’s bat really stood out. The right-handed hitter was making hard contact all week long in training camp which carried over to the Friendship Series in Florida. The bat and power potential will be his carrying tool but the 6-foot-3, 190-pounder has really settled into the outfield position. He played in right field the majority of the time with Canada where his arm strength can play. Miller is a hit machine whose swing works gap-to-gap. He plays up against top competition and does not get cheated or fazed by velocity.

Cameron Gurney C / SS / Pauline Johnson, ON / 2022

Report: Gurney also recently decommitted from a power-five program, Arizona State. The 6-foot, 205-pound left-handed hitting catcher impressed during Team Canada’s training camp, although we didn’t see much of him in Florida due to injury that he has now overcome and is fully healthy. He’s shown the ability to drive the ball to all fields and consistently puts up good at-bats. He has a presence behind the plate and his game continues to progress at the position led by his arm strength. Another one of Canada’s more intriguing uncommitted seniors. LH bat mixed with both hit and power tool make him someone who will be heavily sought after from the 2022 class.
