Conference Preview: District 6 Class AA

By Greg Williams
PA Director of Scouting

With the start of the high school season less than a month away we will be previewing conferences around the state leading up to opening day. In addition to a look at the top teams we will also highlight some of the top prospects in each conference.

           district 6 - class aa

Preseason Favorite

Central (15-5)

Central returns 15 lettermen including seven of their nine starters and their top two pitchers from a team that went 15-5 in 2013. The Dragons lost 7-6 in the District 6 semifinals and are the favorite to win the title this year. Pitchers Ethan Lewis (5-2, 2.00) and Mike Mock (7-0, 2.75) will front the pitching staff while SS Austin Cunningham (.516, 30 runs) and 1B Jay Stern (.475, 23 RBI) should lead the Dragons offense. All four were all-conference selections a year ago.

In The Mix

Blairsville (17-2), Richland (15-6), Ligonier Valley (17-5)

The early favorites in District 6 were also very successful a year ago. All three teams return a large chunk of their starting lineups with quality pitching. To pick one at this point as the clear favorite is very difficult. The race to the title should be extremely competitive and any of the three could find themselves taking home the crown in late May.

Preseason Player of the Year

Jordan MillerJordan Miller, Tyrone Area HS (Class of 2014)

The 5-foot-11, 185-pound left-handed hitting center fielder hit .465 as a junior and created problems for opposing defenses with a .558 on base percentage. The Slippery Rock commit had four doubles and stole 14 bases to become a Mountain League first team selection.
