Conference Preview: District 9 Class AA

By Greg Williams
PA Director of Scouting

With the start of the high school season getting started we have been previewing conferences around the state leading up to opening day. In addition to a look at the top teams we will also highlight some of the top prospects in each conference.

             district 9 Class AA

Preseason Favorite

Karns City (18-2)

The Gremlins are the prohibitive favorite to repeat as district champs. Scott Kiser (.439, 27 RBI) and Nick Ganter (.436, 18 RBI) were lost to graduation, but Karns City returns more than enough offensive production and the top two arms from last year's 18 win season to make a push for a deep playoff run.

Preseason Player of the Year

Nathan WeckerlyNathan Weckerly, Karns City HS (Class of 2014)

Weckerly led a potent Gremlins' offense a year ago hitting an even .500 while driving in 16 runs and scoring 25 times. Weckerly walked 20 times in addition to his 25 hits giving him an eye popping .658 on base percentage as a junior. The 5-foot-9, 150-pound catcher has shown solid defensive actions at multiple PBR events with sub-2.20 pop times.
