With the start of the high school season getting started we have been previewing conferences around the state leading up to opening day. In addition to a look at the top teams we will also highlight some of the top prospects in each conference.
California (20-6), Carmichaels (13-4)
These two squads battled each other a year ago with Carmichaels winning the section by a game. The race is likely to be just as tight this year with both teams returning a significant portion of the rosters that led to last year's battle to the final weeks.
Avella (9-7)
Avella's 4-6 section record of a year ago is a bit misleading. The Eagles went 5-1 outside the section with their only loss coming to Section 5 champion OLSH. Junior 3B/RHP returns following an all-section year as a sophomore.
Ronnie Baron, California HS (Class of 2014)
Barron is a run producer. The 6-foot, 215-pound 1B/DH scored 17 runs and drove in 31 while hitting .359 in 2013. Barron has driven in 76 runs in his high school career and is a .335 hitter over the span of three seasons.
