The Elite Prospect Showcase annually brings together top prospects from across the state as well as from neighboring states. With just over a week until the 2017 edition of this event, October 28th at Keystone State Baseball Academy, we look back on highlights from previous years.

The 2016 version of this event brought together 68 prospects from four states. The day included players participating in three waves with a number of impressive performances. Following is a look back at the top performers in each of the measurable categories evaluated. CLICK HERE for complete results for all prospects in attendance.

Top Bat Exit Velocity

96 mph - Matt Hayes, 1B, Lakeland HS (PA), 2018

Physical 6-foot-3, 215-pound right-handed hitter with serious juice in his bat (96 mph exit velocity). Hits from a slightly open stance with deep hand set and some length in his path. Swings with an intent to elevate and put a dent in the baseball. Not just a one-trick pony, Hayes runs well for his size, posting a 7.09 60-yard dash. Defensively, he recorded 77 mph arm strength from a lower slot, while he would benefit from a more aggressive posture to help him field the ball out front more consistently. Hayes has since committed to Longwood University.

Top Fastball Velocity

85 mph - Jacob Marcus, RHP, Conestoga HS (PA), 2018

5-foot-10, 155-pound junior raised his stock dramatically throwing the bullpen of the day. The righty sat 84-85 from a 3/4 arm slot with a hip coil delivery that leads to some arm-side run to his fastball. Marcus is long in back with a very quick arm that gives his fastball late life. A pair of quality secondary offerings give Marcus three pitches to work off with the potential to get outs. His slider shows tight rotation and late action at 72-74 out of the same arm slot as his fastball. Marcus also showed very good feel for a 79 mph changeup thrown at fastball arm speed. At its best the pitch showed significant arm-side run. Marcus has since committed to the University of Richmond.

TOP 60-YARD DASH TIMES

6.68 - Nick Serafino, SS, Canon-McMillan HS (PA), 2018

5-foot-10, 170-pound right-handed hitter who ran a 6.68 60-yard dash. Starts from a slightly open stance and takes a knee-to-knee stride to square. Flat barrel path geared mainly to the pull-side and has strength in his frame. Could be more to come from a 90 mph exit velocity that is mainly top-half driven, as he has limited backside rotation that is more spin than drive right now. Defensively, he exhibits athletic actions with a solid glove. Arm strength from a low elbow with push action was down at this event, but has been up to 78 mph in the past.

TOP IF/OF ARM VELOCITY

91 mph - Austin Bradbury, OF/RHP, Cedar Cliff HS (PA), 2019

At 6-foot-2, 190-pounds, Bradbury stood out with his physical presence and athleticism. The right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance and initiates significant barrel whip with a weight shift stride and strong hip rotation. Bradbury barreled the baseball consistently during his round of batting practice with a bat exit velocity of 94 mph. He showcased athletic actions in the outfield with 91 mph arm strength and above average foot speed (6.89 60-yard dash). Bradbury has since committed to Liberty University.

TOP CATCHER POP TIMES & ARM VELOCITY

2.06 / 74 mph - Dylan Swarmer, C, Knoch HS (PA), 2018

6-foot, 185-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a leg-lift stride. Displayed above average barrel whip (92 mph) with some present power during a solid round of batting practice. Early weight transfer at times leads to timing issues but ball jumps of barrel when all parts work together. Registered a top pop time of 2.06 on throws of 74 mph from the crouch and ran a 7.31 60-yard dash. Quiet receiver has the potential to play early defensively at the next level.
