Neumann-Goretti 7,
Bonner-Prendergast 3

Brian VerrattiA deep Neumann-Goretti line-up paid dividends on a mostly sunny Sunday afternoon, as the last four hitters in the order drove in six of the Saints seven runs, turning a scoreless game through four innings into a sweep of the home-and-home rivalry this week.

Friars 2014 RHP Brad Scull (Wilmington) and Saints 2016 RHP Ethan Pritchett cruised through a brisk first four frames. N-G broke the ice in the top of the fifth on a leadoff double from 2016 OF Brian Verratti (top right), a wild pitch, and a sac fly from 2015 IF Vinny Vaccone. B-P answered right back, scoring two runs without the benefit of a hit (five walks, one of them intentional, a wild pitch and an error aided the cause).

Nicky D'AmoreN-G then broke the game open with back-to-back three-spots. A two-run single from 2016 3B Nicky D'Amore (bottom right) and an RBI knock from Verratti accounted for the scoring in the sixth, while a run-scoring single from 2014 1B Josh Ockimey (Indiana) and a two-RBI base hit from 2015 IF Justin Curtin effectively put the game out of reach. The Friars would tack on a run in the seventh on a single from 2016 C Steve Furman, but that's where the scoring would end.

Ockimey (2-3, 2B, RBI, BB) and Verratti (2-4, 2B, RBI) led N-G offensively, while 2015 IF Richie Tecco (2-2, 2 BB) reached base safely in all four plate appearances out of the leadoff spot for B-P.
