Game Recap: Neumann-Goretti at Roman Catholic

By Jacob Gill

Roman Catholic 2, Neumann-Goretti 0

Aidan WelchJunior right-handed pitcher Aidan Welch authored a complete game, two-hitter to help the Cahillites cemented their place as a Philadelphia Catholic League title contender. Welch (right) retired the final fourteen hitters he faced, while walking two and striking out seven during his outing. Neumann-Goretti put two runners on base in the first and third innings, the only frames that Welch didn't retire the side in order, but was unable to break through.

Wagner-bound right-handed pitcher Ethan Pritchett (5.1 IP, 6 H, 2 BB, 3 K) was nearly Welch's equal, facing only two hitters over the minimum through five shutout innings. Roman finally broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the sixth on three singles and a sac fly from its first four hitters in the inning.

The win moves Roman to 7-1 in PCL play, just a half game behind Father Judge and Archbishop Wood, the defending champ, both of which stand at 8-1.
