PIAA AAAA State Semifinals: Wyoming valley west 5, Parkland 1
Mansfield University recruit Billy Gregory was in command from first pitch to last, spinning a complete game five-hitter to lead Wyoming Valley West to the state finals. Gregory registered just four strikeouts on the night but kept Parkland off the board until the final inning.
The Spartans scored an unearned run in the 2nd inning on a two-out double by Tyler Yankosky. Justin Vought pushed the lead to 3-0 in the 4th inning with one swing of the bat, launching a two-run home run to left. The Spartans iced the win in the 5th when they strung together three hits and a hit batter to build a 5-0 lead.
Yankosky and Ryan Hogan led the Spartans' offense with two hits and a double each. Wyoming Valley West moves to Friday's AAAA state final against the winner of today's Shaler vs. North Penn semifinal that was delayed a day by weather.
