PA Underclass Games: LHP Analysis

The summer rush of PBR events in Pennsylvania and West Virginia kicked into high gear over the past two weeks with the PA Top Prospect Games (June 17-18), Shenandoah Valley College Prospect Showcase (June 23) and the PA Underclass Games (June 24-25) offering college coaches a glimpse at some 175 prospects in a short period of time.

Over the course of the coming week we will analyze the prospects that performed by position. Today we take a look at the left-handed pitchers that participated in the PA Underclass Games.

 

PA Underclass Games: LHP


Top Prospects

Brandon KnarrLHP Brandon Knarr (Penn Manor), 2017

Knarr impressed with a fastball that sat 82-84 with late life. The sturdy 5-foot-11, 195-pound lefty delivered his three pitch mix with a side rocker step and a fluid delivery from a high 3/4 arm slot. Knarr's 1/7 breaking curveball showed two-plane action at 66 mph and his 74 mph changeup was thrown for strikes at near fastball arm speed. Knarr worked three innings allowing three hits while striking out five.

Curtis RobisonLHP/OF Curtis Robison (Northern York), 2017

Robison is a 6-foot, 175-pound lefty that sat 81-84 from a high 3/4 arm slot. The sophomore displayed late life on his 4-seam fastball with arm side run to his 2-seamer. Robison's 1/7 breaking curveball is an advanced pitch for a player his age. It showed tight, 2-plane action with sharp, late break. Robison commanded a 71 mph changeup with late fade and displayed the ability to add and subtract from each of his pitches to keep hitters off balance. He went three innings facing only nine hitters with no hits allowed and five strikeouts.

Robison participated as a two-way prospect showcasing a 79 mph bat exit velocity and a 79 mph arm from the outfield. The left-handed hitter displayed some pop in batting practice and the ability to barrel the baseball to all fields. He went 2-for-6 in game action including a triple.


Best of the Rest (alphabetical)

LHP/1B/OF Dalton Miller (East Pennsboro), 2018

Miller sat 75-77 from a high 3/4 arm slot with command of his fastball during three innings of work. The freshman flashed a 63 mph curveball with 1/7 rotation that had tight, late breaking action. Miller's used a fluid and repeatable delivery in registering three strikeouts against just one hit allowed during his time on the mound. The 5-foot-8, 150-pound two-way prospect ran a 7.53 60-yard dash and displayed a 75 mph arm from the outfield. The left-handed hitter swings from an open, crouched stance and showed the ability to routinely square the baseball in batting practice with a bat exit velocity of 76 mph. Miller went 3-for-7 at the plate in game action.

LHP/OF Josh Snyder (Red Land), 2017

Snyder sat 72-74 from a high 3/4 arm slot with some arm side run to his fastball. The sophomore also commanded a 64 mph curveball with 1/7 rotation during three innings of in game work. Snyder allowed two hits while retiring five hitters via ground balls. The 5-foot-10, 150-pound lefty has an athletic frame and should see velocity spikes in the coming years as his frame continues to mature.

LHP Antonio Viviano (Mt. Lebanon), 2015

Viviano worked quickly from a high 3/4 arm slot at 75-76 mph. The 6-foot-3, 240-pound lefty displayed a 67 mph curveball with 1/7 rotation that is aided by his high knee delivery. Viviano worked three innings allowing four hits while striking out three during game action.

LHP Brian Wildrick (Saucon Valley), 2016

Wildrick is a 6-foot-2, 225-pound uncommitted junior that sat 79-81 from a low 3/4 arm slot. The lefty showed command of a three pitch mix with good command and tempo to his delivery. Wildrick's fastball showed some arm side run and his 71 mph changeup was thrown at fastball arm speed with some late fade. He displayed a 72 mph curveball with slider action and also flashed a 69 mph knuckle ball. Wildrick worked three innings striking out four while allowing five hits.
