PBR Limited Series Review: Top Corner Infield Prospects
July 4, 2019
The inaugural PBR Limited Series tournament took place June 28-30 with eight teams participating in a round robin format over the course of three days at McGill Field on the campus of Lebanon Valley College. The field was comprised of four 15U teams and four 16U teams hailing from three states.
Today we continue a review of the teams in attendance with a look at some of the top corner infield prospects over the course of the three days.
Jake Books 1B / lhp / Malvern Prep, PA / 20226-foot-2, 200-pound left-handed hitter showcased arguably the most balanced, consistent offensive approach of any hitter at the event. Went 3-for-8 with a walk and an a pair of RBI over the course of three games. Also made several loud outs and was a tough out all weekend. Polished defender at first base, Books also has above average feel for three pitches on the mound and a solid knowledge of how to attack hitters. Books was added to the Team Pennsylvania roster for the PBR Future Games following his performance. |
Aidan Quinn 3B / OF / Central Bucks West, PA / 20225-foot-11, 180-pound left-handed hitter continued to showcase an advanced feel for the barrel with the ability to create above average barrel whip. Went 6-for-11 with a pair of doubles and five RBI over the course of three games. While foot speed is not a strength, his feet work well around the bag at third base routinely setting himself up for good hops. 79 mph arm strength across the diamond will improve in time, but is already sufficient to be able to man the hot corner. |
Adam Gates1B / 3B / gloucester catholic, NJ / 20216-foot-2, 185-pounder has all the tools to be a quality run producing right-handed bat at the next level. Out of the four hole Gates went 5-for-6 with a walk and three RBI on the weekend. He also showcased some present gap power with a pair of doubles. Showcased athletic actions around the bag at first base and topped at 80 mph off the mound. |
Jared McKinney3B / SS / clearview regional, NJ / 2021Broad shouldered 5-foot-10, 185-pounder seemed to be in the middle of the action all weekend. The right-handed hitter went 2-for-7 with a triple and three RBI over three games. He also found a way to consistently reach base with three walks and a hit by pitch in his 11 official plate appearances. A capable defender on the left side of the infield but foot speed will likely keep him at third base at the next level. |
Jack Bifano3b / 1B / bridgeport, wv / 20216-foot-6, 180-pound right-handed hitter went 4-for-7 with a double and two RBI over the span of three games. Long levers leads to some length in the swing, but showed above average barrel awareness in consistently getting to the hitting zone on time all weekend. His frame suits him best to make the switch to first base as his primary position at the next level. |
