Pitcher Anlaysis: Week 4 of Fall College Prospect Program

RHP/OF Joel Clabaugh, West Perry HS, Class of 2014

Clabaugh showcased a fastball with cutting action that topped at 80 mph out of a high 3/4 arm slot. The 6-foot, 170-pound righty worked three innings and registered two strikeouts. Clabaugh also showcased a 67 mph curveball with tight rotation and an 11/5 break along with a 69 mph changeup thrown at near fastball arm speed.

C/RHP Ryan Curtis, Westerville North HS, Class of 2014

Curtis is a 6-foot-1, 185-pound uncommitted senior with a projectable frame. He topped at 78 mph out of a high 3/4 arm slot in one inning of work at Slippery Rock University. Curtis faced three batters retiring two by strikeout and getting a comebacker for the third out. He flashed a 12/6 breaking curveball at 66 mph with tight rotation that has the makings of a dominant pitch.

Connor DiGiacomoRHP Connor DiGiacomo, Geneva HS, Class of 2014

DiGiacomo is a 5-foot-8, 150-pound uncommitted senior that sat 81-82 with significant arm side run to his fastball. He worked three innings of scoreless baseball with five strikeouts and just two hits allowed. DiGiacomo also commanded an 11/5 breaking curveball with tight rotation. The righty showed repeatable mechanics and confident presence on the hill. With another off-season of work and physical maturity it is easy to project DiGiacomo adding several mph to his fastball by the spring of his senior year.

LHP Zach Guth, Franklin HS, Class of 2015

The 6-foot-3, 170-pound lefty has had a breakout fall and continued his impressive string of outings on the mound with six strikeouts in three innings of work. He sat 84-86 with significant arm side run to his fastball and showcased a cut fastball at 82-84 mph. Guth commanded both of his secondary pitches as well including a 77 mph curveball and a 74 mph changeup that showed late downward action. Guth has now struck out 26 batters in 12 innings of work through four weekends of the fall program.

RHP/SS Collin Liberatore, Greensburg Central Catholic HS, Class of 2015

Liberatore sat 80-81 out of a high 3/4 arm slot with arm side run to his fastball. The young junior also commanded his 68 mph 11/5 breaking curveball for strikes in three innings of scoreless work. The 6-foot-2, 165-pound righty utilized a plus changeup at 71 mph to keep hitters off balance.  Liberatore has a projectable frame, loose arm action and repeatable mechanics.

RHP Noah Lolley, Trinity HS, Class of 2014

Lolley is a 6-foot-1, 220-pound uncommitted senior that worked three innings of scoreless baseball at Slippery Rock University.  He sat 76-78 out of a high 3/4 arm slot, down several mph from earlier in the fall, but he commanded the strike zone and effectively utilized his 67 mph 11/5 breaking curveball to get outs. Lolley also showcased a 71 mph changeup thrown at near fastball arm speed. The righty struck out four and gave up three hits in his time on the mound.

Zach NewmyerRHP/3B Zach Newmyer, Red Land HS, Class of 2014

Newmyer is a 6-foot-2, 190-pound prospect with a projectable frame. He sat 80-82 from a 3/4 arm slot with some arm side run to his fastball. The uncommitted senior also commanded a 69 mph 11/5 breaking curveball and a 71 mph changeup. The changeup was thrown at fastball arm speed and showed arm side run as well. Newmyer worked three innings at Slippery Rock University yielding one run on two hits with two strikeouts.

LHP/OF Nick Reamer, Butler Area HS, Class of 2014

Reamer worked two innings, giving up one hit and struck out three at Slippery Rock University. The 5-foot-10, 165-pound uncommitted senior sat 76-77 out of a high 3/4 arm slot and effectively mixed in his 65 mph 1/7 breaking curveball.

RHP Andrew Scherbarth, Shady Side Academy, Class of 2015

Scherbarth is a 6-foot-2, 190-pound righty that topped at 80 mph from a high 3/4 arm slot with some arm side run to his fastball. He worked three scoreless innings, striking out two and yielding no hits. Scherbarth also displayed command of a 71 mph changeup thrown at near fastball arm speed and a 60 mph 11/5 breaking curveball.

RHP/2B Brandon Spinneweber, Butler Area HS, Class of 2015

Spinnewebber worked three innings at Slippery Rock University giving up a run on three hits. He worked from a high 3/4 arm slot and showcased a fastball that topped at 71 mph. Spinneweber also displayed a 66 mph 11/6 breaking curveball.

SS/RHP Tristan Thompson, Chapmanville Regional HS, Class of 2015

Thompson is an athletic 5-foot-10, 165-pound righty that topped at 79 mph out of a high 3/4 arm slot with an overhead rocker delivery. He worked a 1-2-3 inning at Thiel College and flashed a 70 mph 11/5 breaking curveball with tight rotation.

RHP Dante’ Vaniel, McKeesport HS, Class of 2016

Vaniel worked two innings over the weekend topping at 73 mph from a high 3/4 arm slot. The 6-foot, 170-pound righty also displayed a 63 mph 11/5 breaking curveball. Vaniel commanded the strike zone and gave up one run on four hits in his two appearances.

2B RHP Devon Walker, Dubois Area HS, Class of 2014

Walker was impressive in his final fall program appearance on the mound. The 5-foot-9, 160-pound righty topped at 81 mph and mixed in a solid 74 mph slider to retire nine consecutive hitters in his three innings of work at Thiel College. Walker went on to commit to the University of Pitt Johnstown two days later.

SS/RHP Matthew Yough, Karns City HS, Class of 2015

Yough is a 6-foot, 155-pound righty that topped at 75 mph out of a high 3/4 arm slot at Thiel College. He also showcased a 67 mph 11/5 breaking curveball and a 70 mph changeup during his inning of work. Yough yielded one hit and an unearned run while coaxing three ground balls.

Additional pa news:
