Preseason All-State Showcase: Middle Infield Analysis (Part One)

A total of 36 middle infielders showcased their abilities on Day One of the Preseason All-State Showcase. In Part One of our evaluations we will take a look at half of the group, with the remaining group to be reviewed in Part Two.

Luke Baranchak, Butler Area HS, Class of 2015
Baranchak is a physical 5-foot-11, 190-pound middle infielder that ran a 4.25 home-to-1B time. The right-handed hitter showcased raw skills with solid bat speed during his round of batting practice. Baranchak barreled the baseball frequently with a bat exit velocity of 82 mph. His physical size and 77 mph arm across the infield could mean a move to 3B is in his future.

Ryan Becker, Wissahickon HS, Class of 2015
Becker showed well in all facets of the game. The 5-foot-10, 155-pound junior registered a 4.25 home-to-1B time and impressed with a solid round of batting practice. Becker displayed a balanced, athletic swing with no wasted movement and an 85 mph bat exit velocity. He also demonstrated the ability to play the baseball on the move with a 75 mph arm across the diamond.

Jesse Bregman, Harriton HS, Class of 2015
Bregman showed athletic actions and the ability to play the baseball on the move with a bit of a long arm throwing motion. He showcased a 79 mph throwing arm and solid foot speed with a 4.15 home-to-1B time. The 6-foot, 170-pound right-handed hitter utilized a square stance and a high hands load with a short swing path. Bregman demonstrated the ability to use all fields and barreled the baseball often with a bat exit velocity of 81 mph.

Casey Brown, Easton Area HS, Class of 2015
The 5-foot-10, 145-pound 2B showed continued development in his game. Brown showcased more fluid actions defensively and improving arm strength of 78 mph across the diamond. The right-handed hitter utilized a slightly open stance and good rhythm in his swing to produce line drives to all fields. Brown showcased a 76 mph bat exit velocity and turned in a 4.51 home-to-1B time.

Joe Campagna, Blackhawk HS, Class of 2015
Campagna is a solidly built 5-foot-10, 190-pound right-handed hitter that hits from a square stance with good balance throughout his swing. He displayed the ability to routinely drive the baseball to all fields with a bat exit velocity of 84 mph. Campagna showcased fluid actions and the ability to play the baseball on the move with a 72 mph arm across the diamond.

Andrew Coleman, West Chester Rustin HS, Class of 2015
Coleman is a solidly built 5-foot-7, 170-pound right-handed hitter with an 85 mph bat exit velocity. He hits from a wide base with a short stride and exhibited the ability to use all fields. Coleman moves well (4.25 home-to-1B) and showed a quick release with a 78 mph throwing arm across the diamond.

Andrew Collins, Central Bucks East HS, Class of 2016
Collins ran a 4.41 home-to-1B time and showcased a 78 mph arm across the infield. He has a bit of a long arm throwing motion, but he exhibited improved fluidity in his actions defensively. The 5-foot-11, 165-pound right-handed hitter showed an open stance and a lift and replace stride foot to his swing. Collins displayed a 77 mph bat exit velocity and the ability to consistently barrel the baseball.

Danny Corvino, Freedom HS, Class of 2015
Corvino is a 5-foot-11, 165-pound right-handed hitter with a wide stance and a short swing path. He demonstrated a line drive approach at the plate with a 75 mph bat exit velocity. Corvino showcased fluid actions defensively with a quick release and the ability to throw from several arm angles. He played through the baseball routinely and displayed an 80 mph arm across the diamond. Corvino turned in a 4.44 home-to-1B time.

Colton Currey, Central Dauphin HS, Class of 2015
Currey is a 5-foot-9, 170-pound middle infielder that has worked hard to add strength to his frame. He hits from an open stance with a high hands load and the ball jumps off his barrel when squared. He demonstrated an 85 mph bat exit velocity and the ability to barrel the baseball consistently. Currey will need to continue to develop his 72 mph arm defensively. Currey has good foot speed as evidenced by his 4.03 home-to-1B time from the right-hand side of the plate.

Harley Davidson, Northampton HS, Class of 2015
Davidson was one of the more impressive middle infielders in attendance. The 6-foot-1, 170-pound SS displayed fluid actions and the ability to throw from several arm angles with an 82 mph arm across the diamond. The left-handed hitter demonstrated a flat bat path and the ability to use all fields with a bat exit velocity of 79 mph. Davidson showed decent foot speed with a 4.28 home-to-1B time.

Sam Deardorff, Dallastown Area HS, Class of 2015
Deardorff is a 5-foot-10, 140-pound right-handed hitter that showcased a 76 mph bat exit velocity and a line drive approach at the plate. The junior starts from a square stance and utilizes a lift and replace stride foot. Deardorff registered a 4.33 home-to-1B time and showed a solid 83 mph arm across the diamond.

Ryan DeWalt, Germantown Academy, Class of 2015
DeWalt showcased an 84 mph throwing arm and the ability to play through the baseball defensively. The 5-foot-11, 185-pound two-way prospect ran a 4.29 home-to-1B and showed a balanced swing with an 88 mph bat exit velocity from the right side of the plate. DeWalt barreled the baseball routinely and showed the ability to drive the baseball to all fields during his round of batting practice.

Mitchum Donatelli, Gateway HS, Class of 2016
Donatelli is a 5-foot-9, 150-pound right-handed hitter that showed revamped swing mechanics. He now hits from a square stance with no stride. He showcased a 79 mph bat exit velocity and the ability to utilize all fields in his round of batting practice. Donatelli will need to continue to develop his 72 mph arm, but showed improving athleticism defensively. He turned in a 4.35 home-to-1B time.

Patrick Gallagher, Ephrata HS, Class of 2016
The right-handed hitter uses a toe tap trigger out of a square stance with a line drive approach. Gallagher barreled the baseball frequently and should see his 75 mph bat exit velocity increase as his 5-foot-8, 145-pound frame fills out. Gallagher showed soft hands and good feet defensively with a 69 mph throwing arm. The sophomore ran a 4.55 home-to-1B time.

Bayley Jamanis, Lancaster Catholic, Class of 2016
Jamanis hits from a square, narrow stance with good balance and rhythm to his swing. He displayed the ability to barrel the baseball routinely with a bat exit velocity of 80 mph. The 5-foot-11, 170-pound sophomore showcased the ability to play the baseball on the move with an accurate 79 mph arm across the diamond. Jamanis turned in a 4.69 home-to-1B time.

Zach Jacobelli, Penn-Trafford HS, Class of 2016
Jacobelli impressed with an 83 mph bat exit velocity and very good foot speed (3.95 home-to-1B). The right-handed hitter utilized a high hands load from a square stance to barrel the baseball routinely during batting practice. Jacobelli showed a quick release and an accurate 78 mph arm across the diamond. The 5-foot-9, 170-pound sophomore has an athletic frame and the skills to play on the left side of the infield if his frame continues to fill out.

Frankie Jezioro, Peters Township HS, Class of 2015
Jezioro had one of the top all-around performances on Day One. The 5-foot-11, 180-pound switch-hitter turned in a blistering 3.80 home-to-1B time from the left side of the plate. The OF/MIF has run consistent 60 times below 6.65. He showed a bit of a long swing path from the left side of the plate with some pop. From the right side Jezioro showed legitimate power potential with a 95 mph bat exit velocity. He showcased athleticism as a middle infielder with a 74 mph arm and the ability to play the baseball on the move.

Corbin Kessler, Seneca Valley HS, Class of 2016
Kessler took one of the top rounds of batting practice on the day. The 6-foot, 175-pound right-handed hitter showcased an athletic, balanced swing with some potential for power as his frame continues to develop. Kessler displayed an 84 mph bat exit velocity and ran a solid 4.19 home-to-1B time. The sophomore showed capable actions defensively and signs that his arm strength is improving with throws of 78 mph across the diamond.

Tristan Kevitch, Harriton HS, Class of 2015
Kevitch showed improvements in nearly every phase of the game. The 6-foot-1, 165-pound sophomore showed balance and athleticism throughout his swing with a bat exit velocity of 84 mph. Kevitch ran a 4.19 home-to-1B time and displayed fluid actions defensively with an 82 mph arm across the diamond.

Jordan Kowalski, Knoch HS, Class of 2015
Kowalski is a 5-foot-9, 160-pound right-handed hitter that displayed an 81 mph bat exit velocity from a wide stance with no stride. He showed the ability to use all fields with a short swing path during his round of batting practice. Kowalski turned in a 4.41 home-to-1B time and showcased a 71 mph throwing arm across the diamond.

Michael Kuypers, Central Bucks South HS, Class of 2015
Kuypers showcased two-way abilities with a strong round of batting practice. The 5-foot-10, 170-pound right-handed hitter showcased loose hands and a strong lower half in barreling the baseball routinely with a bat exit velocity of 85 mph. Kuypers showcased soft hands and a strong arm (81 mph) across the diamond, but lacks the foot speed to play on the left side of the infield (4.55 home-to-1B).

Hunter Reeser, Governor Mifflin HS, Class of 2016
Reeser is a 5-foot-11, 175-pound right-handed hitter that displayed a balanced swing with good extension. He utilizes a toe tap trigger from a square stance and showcased a bat exit velocity of 81 mph. Reeser showed athletic actions and the ability to play the baseball on the move defensively with throws of 78 mph across the diamond. His footspeed (4.79 home-to-1B) could prompt a move to 3B moving forward.
