This feature checks in with weekly standouts throughout the preseason, comparing the improvements made since our last look. A junior southpaw burst onto the scene with much easier velocity in a compact, physical 6-foot, 200lb frame.

PROGRESS Report

Last Look NotesJune 15, 2021, PA State Games, The imposing left-hander had a successful outing commanding each of the three pitches en route to two scoreless innings. The fastball settled into the 80-82 range with the usual arm-side run, making it tough for left-handed hitters to square up in the box. Was able to land a serviceable upper-60's breaking ball that maintained arm-speed at release, which continued gaining confidence deeper into the start. A 72-74 mph CH has the makings of a future strikeout offering with significant fade and deception.

Recent ImprovementsMarch 3, 2022, Complete Game of PA Scout Day, Schwartz arrived with an improved stature, pounding the zone with a newfound 85-87 mph velocity (100% zone rate). Sat off the arm-side and the movements were clean/repeatable down the slope, mixing a harder thrown 70-73 mph CB with short, late two-plane shape. Lots of intent on a now 75-77 mph CH, which showed good extension out of the hand and similar hard fade back off the plate. The needle continues pointing up throughout the high school season, where he'll be tasked with being an innings-eater for Phoenixville in a deep PAC conference.
