Latrobe 9, West Allegheny

Jared Kollar Latrobe bested West Allegheny by a 9-4 score to reach the PIAA 5A state semifinals.  The Wildcats wasted no time taking control of the game plating five runs in the top of the first.  Singles by Seton Hill recruit, Jared Kollar, Griffin Clark, Chatham recruit Ryan Shawley and Isaac Echard, along with some sloppy defense did the damage.  West Allegheny chipped away with single tallies in the 1st and 2nd.  They then got within one thanks to a two run Nick Ross single in the bottom of the 5th. However, Latrobe responded with four runs on four hits including a Tyler Roble triple in the 7th.

Kollar got the win with a line of 5.2 IP, 9 H, 4 ER, 9 K, 1 BB.  Virginia Tech recruit Zach Kokoska picked up the save with 1.1 innings of clean relief throwing only ten pitches.  Multiple hits were recorded by Latrobe's Clark (2-4, 2 R, 2 RBI) and Dan Stas (2-3, 3 RBI) as well as West Allegheny's Michael Starkman (2-3) and Justin Usenicink (2-3).  Steve Twardy was stellar in relief for West Allegheny going 5.1 Innings striking out two and allowing 1 earned run.
