Rookie Review: '23 RHP/OF Dominic Praydis (South Western)

Ted Williams
Director of Scouting, PA

Throughout the preseason, we'll be featuring standout newcomers with our Rookie Review installments. A Junior two-way prospect impressed at the 5-Star Mason Dixon scout Day, recording the event's best 60-yard dash time (6.78 seconds) and then commanded two-pitches during a standout bullpen.

Scouting Report

What We Liked: Longer and projectable at 6-foot-1, 185lbs, Praydis operated with tons of raw athleticism, bouncing around the field. An aforementioned 6.78 60-yard dash continues to be bolstered by both feel for the hit tool (89 mph exit, 75% sweet spot) and a fluid arm-stroke out in front on the mound (84 mph fastball). Defensively, the outfielder displayed a quick first step and ability to patrol the middle of the field in a CF role down the road. An 81 mph arm-strength was easy and natural with more coming as he keeps adding strength. There's some ceiling offensively, too with only moderate effort in the swing at the moment, spraying hard line drive contact to all fields while flashing occasional barrel-whip. Still figuring out his body, the South Western product has a chance to make numerous measurable jumps in the next six months.
