FalascinoIn a battle of ranked PIAA Class A teams, OLSH (Our Lady of the Sacred Heart) won going away behind the strong pitching of Slippery Rock recruit RHP Preston Falascino and solid offense from the entire order. OLSH plated five runs in the first, one in the third and eight in the fourth to take a 14-3 win in five innings.

Falascino gave up just four hits and struck out seven on the night to go along with three walks. OLSH finished with 10 hits and benefited from 11 walks issued by Vincentian pitchers.

+ Falascino did not have his best stuff but it was more than enough to keep Vincentian hitters at bay. The 5-foot-11, 205-pound prospect sat 81-83 and touched 85 mph several times early. He worked out of a high 3/4 arm slot and utilized a 11/5 breaking curveball that sat 68-70 as his primary off-speed pitch.

+ 2015 SS Santino Platt showed promise offensively. Platt is a right-handed hitter who hits out of a square stance and has a compact swing that produced two doubles and a single in four plate appearances. Platt will need to improve defensively to move into the upper echelon of middle infielders in this class, but showed enough offensively to make him a prospect to watch among sophomores in the state.

Madonna+ 2014 catcher Phil Madonna was solid behind the plate for Vincentian. He did not have an opportunity to throw during game action, but showed consistent 2.10-2.15 pop times to 2B between innings. Madonna is an athletic backstop who receives and blocks well. He showed patience at the plate, walking twice in three trips to the plate.
