Stock Report: C/3B Ben Snyder

By Greg Williams
PA Director of Scouting

Ben Snyder 2C/3B Ben Snyder had a solid performance at the Preseason All-State Showcase in February further solidifying his spot as one of the top 2014 catchers in the state. Snyder will look to continue to build his resume this spring as a member of the Red Land Patriots roster. He will have a tough time starting more quickly than he did in his sophomore campaign. On March 26, 2012 the Patriots opened up their season against Central Dauphin and Snyder put on a hitting clinic. The 5-foot-10, 205-pound prospect went 4-for-5 with two doubles, two triples, three runs scored and an RBI that afternoon. He went on to hit .400 for the season with 16 RBI.

Snyder has prototypical size for the position and his 90 mph bat exit velocity was the 2nd best recorded at the preseason event among the catchers. He showed pop times of 1.97-2.06 on throws of 77 mph out of the crouch. Offensively he uses a toe tap trigger and a compact swing to generate significant pop in his bat. Snyder routinely drove baseballs back up the middle in a quality round of batting practice. To round out his skill set, Snyder showed excellent foot speed for a catcher turning in a 4.13 home-to-first time.

Snyder will play for Chandler Baseball this summer, formerly Evoshield Canes M-A, and will likely draw major interest from numerous Division I programs.
