Scouting Report

8/17/17 5-foot-9, 190-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a short, lift-and-replace stride. A relatively late load leads to rushing to the hitting zone at times. Lower half works in conjunction well with the upper half.  Strong hip turn and quick hands lead to a bat exit velocity of 92 mph  with present gap power. The uncommitted senior continues to show above average defensive abilities with event best pop times of 1.98-2.08 on throws of 76 mph from the crouch.  Also displayed 81 mph arm strength across the diamond from third base. Impressed with receiving skills and vocal leadership during the course of bullpen session.

2/12/17 5-foot-9, 190-pound right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a short, lift-and-replace stride. Handsy hitter with a feel for the barrel creates barrel whip with aggressive hip turn and direct path to the baseball. Registered a bat exit velocity of 93 mph and showcased some ability to backspin the baseball. Quiet receiver is also an above average blocker. Quick, efficient movements result in pop times consistently in the 2.10 range with carry to second base.

1/14/17 5-foot-9, 190-pound catcher displayed advanced defensive abilities behind the plate and power potential in his right-handed swing. Advanced receiver presents a soft wall when blocking and flashed above-average carry on throws of 75 mph from the crouch with pop times of 2.00-2.08. RIght-handed hitter starts from a square stance and utilizes a short, lift-and-replace stride to initiate his swing. Some bat waggle in the load phase of his swing does not prevent Hamlin from getting to the hitting zone on time. He generates a 91 mph bat exit velocity and showed the ability to stay inside the baseball with regularity.
