Western PA Game of the Day: Shaler at Butler
April 26, 2018
butler 6, Shaler 3
Butler moved to within one game of section leading Central Catholic with a 6-3 victory over the visiting Shaler Titans on Wednesday.
The Golden Tornado jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first as leadoff hitter Ryan Lynn, a Wheeling Jesuit recruit, doubled and scored on Garret Banner's single to right.
It looked like North Carolina recruit Connor Ollio would be able to make the single tally stand up as he cruised through five. However, the Golden tornado weren't taking any chances adding single runs in the third and sixth. Lynn and Grant Metzger picked up the RBI.
Shaler battled back in the top of the sixth. Following a phantom catcher's interference call, Ollio seemed to tire. The Titans took advantage as Brian Colarusso singled and Hunter Jamison followed with a two run single. Seton Hill recruit, Grant Metzger, then took over for Ollio and despite control issues was able to close out the 6-3 victory.
Ollio fanned twelve, while allowing two earned, in picking up the win. Multi hit games were registered by Butler's Ollio (2-for-4, 1 R), Garret Banner (2-for-3, 1 R, 1 RBI) and Shaler's Paul Perman (2-for3), Hunter Boyan (2-for-2, 1 R)
