Elite Squad Prospect Camp Standouts

By Doug Freeman
Florida Scouting Director

This past weekend Elite Squad brought together nearly 300 prospects from grad classes 2017-2020. Below we break down some of the standouts from the event.

Jordan Carrion, SS/RHP, Somerset Academy, FL (2020)
Florida recruit. The 6-foot 145-pound SS/RHP continued to show has shown plus defensive actions and a good path through the zone from the right side. This weekend though, he got on the mound and was 85-86 touching 87 mph with his fastball showing an extremely quick arm. He also showed the ability to spin a plus curveball for his class at 68-69 mph and a 73 mph changeup. He is extremely athletic and will be fun to watch how he grows as the ceiling is extremely high.

Ryan Cabarcas, LHP/OF, Somerset Academy Charter, FL (2019)
The 5-foot-10, 140-pound LHP/OF is thin, but sneaky athletic. On the mound he may have been one of the most impressive arm at the event. Showing a very clean ¾ arm action with a fastball that worked from 82-84 touching 85 mph. He creates a quality downhill action coupled with a 72-73 mpl slider with tight spin and some late depth. He also showed a feel for a changeup at 72 mph. He is slight in stature, but has above average feel for three pitches and is going to be an extremely interesting arm as he continues to grow and mature could make a very big jump.

Chase Costello, SS/RHP, Pompano Beach HS, FL (2018)
The athletic and projectable 6-foot-5, 190 pound SS/RHP was impressive on both sides of the ball. At the plate, the right handed hitter shows some bat speed and feel for the barrel which generated a single in the game. Perhaps more intriguing is the potential on the mound. The projectable frame and quick arm action generates a fastball from 84-86 touching 88 mph with some late life. He also showed a slider at 70 mph that he gets under at time. Very interesting follow.

Cosi Scinta, RHP, JP Taravella HS, FL (2019)
The 6-foot-2, 230-pound right handed pitcher is a big, physical kid. He has a long, high arm action and uses his strong lower half well to generate some late life on his 85-86 touching 87 mph fastball. He also showed a 69-71 mph slider with quality shape and spin. Struck out one with a lot of potential if he can continue to lean out as he grows.

Isaiah Hood, LHP/OF, St. Thomas Aquinas, FL (2019)
The 6-foot-3, 170-pounder has the prototypical projectable frame. On the mound the lefty shows a short, quick arm action with a fastball ranging from 82-84 mph. He also showed command of both a 67-68 mph curveball and a 65-69 mph changeup while striking out three in his inning of work. He also showed his strong arm with low accurate throws from the outfield. At the plate, the is some length, but there is also present athleticism with some bat speed.

Christian Muniz, RHP/3B, Mater Academy, FL (2019)
The 6-foot-4, 180-pounder was not even originally listed as a pitcher in the packet, but was one of the more interesting arms of the event. He has wide shoulders and a high-waist that projects to continue to grow and fill out significantly. He threw from a slot with a fastball in the 81-84 range with some arm side run. Although he got underneath the slider at times at 68 mph, there is some shape to it. He also threw a changeup at 72 mph. Offensively, he showed some length in the swing and solid actions at third. Overall, the arm action and frame make him intriguing on the mound.
