Florida Draft Insider: Summer Standouts

By Nathan Rode and Rob Sidwell

The summer months are important for high school baseball prospects. With school out, they can spend their time traveling the country with their summer teams to face top competition. There are also showcases and tournaments put on by major league teams that highlight some of the country’s best players. Like the rest of our staff, Florida scouting director Rob Sidwell saw dozens of games across several events this summer. A scout for four major league organizations across 18 years, Sidwell offers his thoughts on a few players that stood out for him this summer, taking advantage of the big stage and elite opponents.

To me, the guy that really jumps out that helped himself is C Michael Amditis (Boca Raton HS, FL). I liked him going into the summer, but to me, he really outplayed most of his competition. He jumps out at me.

The bat really performed against good arms. He was always a really good catcher, more of a defensive-type guy. I think he kind of showed people he could swing the bat a little bit, occasionally even with power. He became an all-around package so to speak—an offensive and defensive catcher—which to me says he has a chance to play every day in the big leagues.
