Fuquay-Varina Gets Walkoff Win in Round 1

PBR of North Carolina was on hand for a 1st round matchup in Wake County on Tuesday May 10th as the #13 Fuquay Varina Bengals hosted the #20 Clayton Comets.
The Comets struck first in the top of the 2nd when Hugh Collins doubled to left center to score a run. Fuquay Varina would quickly answer, tying the game on a passed ball in the bottom half of the inning. The Bengals would take advantage of some Comet miscues to take a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the 3rd. Clayton would bounce back to take the lead in the top of the 4th scoring 2 runs highlighted by a Derrick Collins home run.
Clayton took a 3-2 lead into the bottom of the 7th. With one out JJ Dobson would reach on an infield error and advance to 2nd base on the errant throw. Dobson would then score to tie the game on a base hit to center by Bengal leadoff hitter Bobby Osburn. With Osburn advancing to 3rd on the play Clayton would then intentionally walk the 2 and 3 hitters in the Bengal lineup to load the bases with one out. Cleanup hitter HL Smith would then smoke a line drive off the shortstops glove to score the winning run and send Fuquay to the 2nd round and a matchup against #4 Middle Creek.
