Illinois 2023 Watch List: Pitchers

By Drew Locascio
Illinois Scouting Director

On Oct. 8, PBR Illinois released its first ever Class of 2023 Illinois rankings with a modest list of the 25 best prospects we have seen to date. We followed up with a deeper dive into the rankings looking at the noteworthy prospects outside of our Top-10 list.

Today we continue our Illinois 2023 content with an Illinois 2023 Watch List: Pitchers. All the players in the list below are uncommitted arms that should be followed closely moving forward. All of these sophomores have fresh video below and have peaked our interest in one way or another since the start of the summer.

Read on below for some 2023s arms to follow, listed alphabetically.

ILLINOIS 2023 WATCH LIST: PITCHERS

Wesley Carter RHP / Bloomington Central Catholic, IL / 2023

6-foot, 155 pounds; long limbs, high waist, projects well. Polished for his age with a high-ceiling. Clean, quick arm, has seen his velocity steadily climb over the past few months; sits mostly 79-81 mph and touched 83 at the Underclass Games in late July. Should continue to trend up as he adds strength to his frame and throws his off-speed with consistent intent.

Caleb Diver RHP / Dunlap, IL / 2023

Report from Central Illinois Scout Day (7/6/20): One of the top prospects on the 16U squad was actually a 2023, RHP Caleb Diver (Dunlap). Diver has a clean, athletic arm with present pitchability and arm strength. Diver attacked hitters with a fastball that played relatively easy at 82-83 mph, touching 84 and kept hitters off balance with a 66-68 mph breaking ball.
