Inside The Rankings - Weber, Clayton, Schleichardt

Dan Jurik
Scouting Director - Pacific Northwest

Continuing our look “Inside the Rankings”, today we’re focusing on the 2021 class. Specifically, position players in the Top 10 who might have a case for the #1 spot in the future.

‘21 SS Mason Guerra (Westview) has been at the top of our ‘21 rankings since we first began scouting the state last year. The Oregon State commit still holds that #1 rank in our most recent update due to his improved physicality and powerful bat. One thing we really value is the ability to consistently hit for average against quality pitching. Guerra’s hitting actions, bat speed and pitch recognition project well for his overall hit tool. Improved power elevates his prospect status even further. Defensively he should find a permanent home on the INF.

With that being said, there’s a strong crop of position players in the class who have the physical tools and skill-sets to make some significant jumps over the course of the next year.

We’ll be keeping an eye on C Wilson Weber (Barlow), INF Cameron Clayton (Lakeridge), INF Josh Schleichardt (Tigard), 1B/LHP Carson Lydon (Churchill), INF Malcolm Williams (Lake Oswego) and INF Spencer Scott (Grant) as soon as baseball is back.

How could each of them end up at #1?

For today, we’re taking a look at Weber, Clayton and Schleichardt and will finish up with the rest of the top guys later this week.

Here’s my take…
