McCOOK, IL—Hours before the Philadelphia Eagles triumphed over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LII, more than 60 top prospects from 23 states and Canada participated in the 16th annual Super 60. It was arguably the best roster in the event’s history and about 150 scouts were in attendance to get a glimpse of the players before high school seasons officially start.

+ The Super 60 always starts with the 60-yard dash and there was no shortage of speed with this year’s crop. There were 29 players that ran a sub-7.0 60. OF Christian Franklin (Rockhurst HS, MO) had the fastest time at 6.5 seconds while OF Jarred Kelenic (Waukesha West HS, WI) was on his heels with a 6.55.

The light of spring continues to be seen in the distance, but with PBR Preseason events in full swing, prospects have begun cementing themselves as players for recruiting coordinators to follow. The players range from Colorado, Louisiana, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Texas.

Recent travels to Phoenix and the campus of Arizona State University for PBR Arizona’s Preseason All-State event led to the uncovering of multiple, uncommitted players in the 2019 class who were waiting to be found In the Weeds. The spring is just kicking off in the southwest, so the early glimpse into the skills that these players hold is just the beginning compared to where they will be at the start of the summer. Of the seven players featured, there are two pitchers, two infielders, two outfielders, and a potential two-way player.

SEPARATING FROM THE PACK
Brandon Hall
North Carolina Director of Scouting

One of the best weeks of the year, for myself, is the week of the Super 60 in Chicago, IL.  That week, PBR Directors from across the country converge on Chicago.  During the week we all sit in meetings, learning about our business practices and meeting with corporate sponsors.  But the big thrill during the week is meeting with the other directors as we talk about baseball players, development, and evaluations.  The hours pass quickly, which can lead the alarm clock going off well before we are ready.  But with the knowledge that is being shared, it is difficult to go to bed early.
