A look back at what happened at the Prep Baseball Report the week of Dec 19 - Dec 23. This week featured the release of the initial 2020 overall rankings across the PBR landscape. National Supervisor, Nathan Rode, takes an in depth look into height and its correlation to hitting. Neil Devlin rolls out part five of his series on the current state of recruiting in Colorado and much more.
INITIAL 2020 OVERALL RANKINGS RELEASED

It is still extremely early, perhaps even premature, to be forecasting Class of 2020 prospects, especially since these freshmen haven’t even played a varsity high school game. Then again, with the recent acceleration of recruiting, high-level 2020 prospects are already pledging their commitments to schools.
With that said, we have released our initial 2020 rankings, a modest list of 50 prospects that have stood out among their peers. Certainly this list will change and evolve in time, as we know many players will grow, develop and mature. We also know that we likely haven’t seen many other 2020 prospects that may be deserving of this list. Read More >>

Nearly two years ago, a question was submitted to the PBR Mailbag asking why 6-foot-2 is an ideal height for pitchers. A friend of mine in the scouting community suggested doing the same exercise, but for hitters. It’s a fact. Baseball prospects from the state of Colorado are getting more and more looks from the next levels.
And the high-school players, who absolutely, positively love the game, think they know the various reasons why.
“We are getting better looks,” said Carter Akerfelds, a right-handed pitcher at Dakota Ridge in Jefferson County, “because I think the pitching out of Colorado is getting better. It’s better than most state’s position players. For the pitching, I think it’s because we get the cold weather. Kids are getting time to rest their arms.” Read More >>
THE BUZZ: WOODS-RICHARDSON FLIPS TO TEXAS

One of Texas’ top prospects has made a switch in commitments with RHP Simeon Woods-Richardson (Kempner HS, TX) flipping to Texas. Previously committed to Texas A&M, Woods-Richardson is ranked No. 7 in the state and No. 40 in the 2018 Overall Rankings. He has a strong, projectable frame at 6-foot-3, 198 pounds. At the Area Code Underclass Games in August, he range from 88-92 mph with his fastball while mixing in a 74-75 curveball with 11/5 shape. Read More >>
