PBRT Arizona Fall Championships: 2024 Standouts

PBR Staff

The PBR Tournaments Arizona Fall Championships took place September 27-29th. Our staff provided must-read coverage throughout the weekend with in-depth daily scout blogs, which can be found here

Over the next few days, we will begin to roll out the top standouts from each class. Today we begin with 2024 prospects.

Chris Newstrom SS / C / Cocopah , AZ / 2024

A name you will be hearing about for years to come. Athletic 6-foot-1, 170-pound middle infielder with proportional strength and quick-twitch tendencies. Looks to be a high-level national prospect playing for the Scottsdale Dirtbags Black. Moves with fluidity and confidence. Made advanced plays at 3B, SS and 2B in the first game. Loose, athletic arm action, shows ability to throw from multiple angles, plays exceptionally well on the move with plenty of arm to stick on the left side of the dirt. Plays the game with a level of moxie and ease, yet plays hard. Offensively, has advanced rhythm in the hand/load, generates bat speed with his hands. Overall has an advanced presence in the box

Brady Strohm RHP / 3B / Chaparral, CA / 2024

True two-way prospect who dominated a talented USA Prime Mountain during Trosky’s run to the tournament championship. Filled up the strike zone, yielding only one hit with no walks and five strikeouts in four innings work. A middle infielder on the mound, from his delivery to his arm, everything is athletic, loose and natural. Calm, confident demeanor, clean, full arm path, loose and quick out front. Fastball ranged between 76-78 mph, topping at 79, with cut action at times. Worked off his fastball, then started dropping a highly advanced breaking ball, 67-71 mph, that he toggled the shape from 10/4 power slurvish to a few that had more downer depth ... whichever the shape, the action was consistently late and sharp. High-level of moxie on the mound. … Carries that same level of quiet confidence in the box. Has a calm, quiet and balanced approach with loose hands and direct path to the ball. Lined a pair of hits in the game. 5-foot-11, 145-pound athletic build. As he physically develops, Strohm should be a highly coveted prospect in the future.

Matthew Champion 3B / RHP / Orange Lutheran, CA / 2024

May have turned in the most impressive performance of the day on the mound. Ball jumps and shows ASR at times. The 5-foot-11, 180-pound prospect sat FB 81-83, T84 CB 67-68 with some depth. Tends to pull secondary to the glove side. Finished the day with 8k’s in his no-hitter. High level prospect or the Scottsdale Dirtbags.

Julian Areliz OF / RHP / N/A, CA / 2024

Will likely garner plenty of attention in high school. The proportionally strong 6-0/160-pound right-handed hitter has a mature, quiet and calm presence in the box. Mechanically simple and balanced, direct path and strong through contact. Seemingly on time with everything; squared up balls in all his at-bats. High-level follow down the road.  Pitching .... An athletic 6-foot, 160-pound two-way talent, Areliz impressed at the plate during the first two days. On Sunday, he got the start on the mound. Ran his fastball up to 81 mph, settled in the 77-79 range. Inconsistent around the strike zone. As he continues to refine the timing of his delivery, Areliz should continue to develop into a hard-throwing pitcher down the road.

Corbin Gull RHP / 2B / Spanish Fork , UT / 2024

Came out the bullpen for Trosky Baseball on Day 1 of the PBR Fall Championships. The 5-foot-7, 140-pound RHP ran his FB up to 77 and showed a hard slider out of the same window. Showed an extremely quick and clean arm action for his age. Gull clearly is an intriguing prospect, but struggles to repeat his delivery at times. Should continue to make tremendous gains in his pitchability and velocity as he gains strength.

Jack Perotti LHP / OF / Legend, CO / 2024

Turned in an impressive performance for USA prime. The LHP throws 3 pitches for a strike strike with his FB works at 74-75 through 4IP. Showcases variable deliveries and commands the strike zone at the same time. Ceiling will only get higher as he gets stronger.

Nathan Carrillo C / 3B / MS, AZ / 2024

Had a solid outing early for Team Dinger 2023. From a tall projectable body with long limbs, Corrillo sat 75-76 T78mph. Physically immature with a ton of room to fill out as he gets older. He shows the ability to pound down in zone when he gets into his back leg and uses good direction coming down the mound in his delivery. Off-speed is very limited at this time. This young kid should be followed over the next few years.
