Super 60: Stats Posted

By Sean Duncan
Executive Director

Despite a wicked snowstorm on Sunday, 70 of the top draft prospects from 15 states and a packed house of pro scouts convened at The Max for the 13th Annual Super 60 Pro Showcase in McCook, IL. Not even the weather could’ve slowed down the individual performances throughout the day.

Cumulatively, this year’s Super 60 was arguably the most impressive collection of players in the event’s history. Especially the pitching. Throughout the week we will have various breakdown stories highlighting the event. Today, we look at just the raw statistical numbers.

Pitching

The pitching was the star of the show. For the first week of February, the raw velocity was jaw-dropping. Of the 29 pitchers, 25 were 89-plus, including 10 pitchers who topped out at 92 mph or better. RHP Luke Shilling (Notre Dame Prep HS, MI) broke the Super 60 record when he touched 95 multiple times. And it wasn’t just all about velocity, either. Many of the pitchers also flashed advanced secondary stuff. But for our purposes in this article, here’s a look at the top max fastball velocities:

C/OF David Craan (Whitney Young HS, IL) opened the laser-timed 60-yard dash portion of the event by running a 6.53, and the impressive speed didn’t stop there. Of the 41 position players, 26 run sub-7 60s, including 10 who were below 6.8. After Craan, SS Charlie Donovan (Westmont HS, IL) was the only other player who ran below a 6.6, checking in a 6.57. Exit Velocity

Before taking their live rounds of batting practice at the Super 60, hitters loosened up in the cages and measured their exit velocity by hitting off of a tee. Exit velo can be an indicator of bat speed and with the strength of some of these prospects it makes for some big numbers. Seventeen hitters had exit velocities 90-mph or better, with junior left-handing hitting C T.J. Collett (Terre Haute North Vigo HS, IN) and INF Eduardo Estrada (Litchfield HS, MN) leading the way at 97 mph.
