By Drew Locascio
Illinois Scouting Director

We began rolling out our analysis of the Underclass Trials last week. The event, which was held in early June, featured over 100, 2018 and 2019 prospects from the state of Illinois. Today we conclude the event analysis by taking a look at the Top Overall Prospects.

Below are the Top 10 2018 and 2019 Prospects from the Underclass Trials.

TOP 2018 PROSPECTS

1. D’Eric Shenault, SS, Kenwood, 2018
6-foot, 155-pound, infielder with plenty of room for continued physical development. Shenault continues to prove he is one of the top defensive infielders in the 2018 class. Smooth, athletic actions with plus body control. Flashes supreme confidence in his hands which work soft and out in front of his body. Quick, easy transfer and feet work through the baseball. Loose, athletic arm action, accurate throws with carry and clocked at 78 mph across the diamond. Offensively, barrel control, line-drive approach and spray-type hitter. Balanced setup, early load, short leg-lift timing trigger and good balance through contact. Flashed the ability to backspin the baseball; short, level bat path. Registered a 70 mph exit velocity. Also, ran a 7.09 laser-timed 60.
