Quick Hitters: Combine Academy Pitchers

Brandon Hall
Mid-Atlantic Executive Director

PBR North Carolina was on hand in Lincolnton, NC on Saturday February 6th for a Scout Day with Combine Academy. 25 players went through the workout portion of the scout day. Combine Academy features kids from North Carolina as well as kids from other states and countries.

The position players led off the day with a full pro-style workout.  Players ran a laser timed 60, followed by an offensive evaluation and defensive evaluation.  During live BP, TrackMan was able to gather ball flight information off the bat.  After the pro-style workout, pitchers faced hitters in a controlled scrimmage with Trackman gathering information on each arm.

Chase Corbett, RHP, Combine Academy (Post Grad), 2020  --  Mature frame at 6-foot, 195 pounds.  Closed at balance using a clean arm stroke to get to a high-3/4 slot.  Lands closed, creating some angle vs. right handed hitters.   Fastball at 80-82.  In the zone with all three pitches.  Good feel for the breaking ball, sweeping through the zone with side to side action.  Some deception in the arm speed of the change-up with run to the arm side.

Luis Montenero, RHP, Combine Academy, 2022  --  Lanky, athletic frame.  Plenty of room to add strength as he continues to mature.  Fastball up to 77.  Methodic delivery.  Slight pause and coil at balance, loading the backside.  Long arm swing works to a high-3/4 slot with the hand slightly laid off, outside the elbow.  Good arm speed.  Slider is early with sweeping action.  Occasional depth with 10/4 tilt.
