After compiling information for the past two years and through a full fall of competition, along with winter and early spring events, the PBR Minnesota Class of 2022 Rankings has been released highlighting the Top 50 players in the class. Overall, the Minnesota 2022 class is extremely deep with higher-end uncommitted prospects and developing players who have made significant jumps over the last six months. It will be interesting in the near future which prospects continue to make jumps in development; allowing them potentially to sky rocket up the board.

The top prospect in the rankings is South Dakota product, RHP Austin Henry (Dell Rapids, SD), a Wichita State recruit, who burst onto the screen this February at the PBR Winter Open event in Sioux Falls. Henry performed exceptionally well at the event and projects extremely well with his 6-foot-4, 195-pound frame – throwing 86-88 mph for strikes; coupled with an above average breaking ball and changeup.

The combination of athleticism, projectability and ability to show 3-pitch command of Alex Call (K-M-S, MN), an Arizona commit, gave him the boost to move up to the two spot in our rankings. The 6-foot-3, 180-pound left-handed pitcher features mid 80’s velocity, feel for a breaking ball and changeup, and shows upper level pitchability.

The second South Dakota prep who have leaped into the Top 10 in this class is Will Simmons (Harrisburg, SD). Checking in at #3; Simmons is a durable 6-foot-1, 180-pound right-handed pitcher. His three-pitch mix is dynamic with a 86-88 mph fastball with late life; backed up by an above avg. breaking ball thrown with higher velocity, and a feel for a changeup with late life.

C/SS Drew Berkland (Wayzata, MN) is #4 in our updated rankings. Currently uncommitted, Berkland has a high degree of athleticism behind the plate, in the field, and at the plate. The 6-foot, 185-pound right-handed hitter has a high overall package tools with a 7.15 60-yard dash, 1.84-1.94 pop times, and has posted a 90 mph exit velocity. Well rounded with the ability to play multiple positions; Berkland’s bat might be his top tool; consistently barreling baseballs with projectable power at the plate.

Rounding out the top five is uncommitted C/3B Weber Neels (East Ridge, MN), whose athleticism and projected physical growth is commanding. The 6-foot-0, 175-pound right-handed hitters’ athleticism is evident; with his ability to play across the diamond at a high-level. Offensively; Neels projects the ability to hit at the college level and his versatility to play behind the dish and in the field should garner significant attention from colleges.
