The 2020 PBR Future Games was a major success for the Team Tennessee squad as over 400 of the best uncommitted prospects competed at the Lakepoint Sports Complex. With a loaded roster and big time performances throughout the weekend, the team has had ten players commit over the past few months and more on the horizon. Next, we'll breakdown the 5 middle infielders/utilitymen that donned the orange and gray at PBR Future Games.

Cooper Clapp, SS, Hardin County, 2022
The 5-foot-10, 175-pound Notre Dame commit continued to expand his resume making his second PBR Future Games appearance. At the dish, relaxed, balanced stance with slightly open setup and loose hands. Small leg kick with great rhythm and timing, proving to be one of the most consistent swings from the left side. Consistent heavy dose of line drives with some gap to gap upside (Max exit velo: 91.7 mph; Max Distance: 340 ft  per Trackman).  Generates good bat speed (Max: 72.7 mph; Avg: 69.1 mph per Blast)  and promising rotational data (Max: 15.5 G per Blast).  Balanced approach drawing three walks and feel for barrel slashing a single thru the 6-hole vs Kentucky. Great instincts and tools up the middle with soft, quick hands and precise transitions. Good feel defensively  and high baseball IQ. 

 

 

Jayden Davis, SS/RHP, Cookeville, 2022
The 5-foot-10, 180-pound two-way Rice commit came on strong this summer earning a spot at PBR Future Games.  Average, compact frame with little projection, but Davis contributes with a big game.  Balanced stance with toe tap small leg kick to generate strong rotational data (Max: 30.2 G per Blast) and excellent bat speed (Max: 75.6 mph per Blast). Correlates to gap to gap power (99.5 Exit Velo | 364 ft Distance via Trackman) paired with a strong hit tool.  Picked up three hits with three RBIs, a walk, a stolen base, and a run scored.  Defensively, the instinctive shortstop shows great hands and footwork while posting the top infield velo (94 mph) at Future Games. Can play all three infield positions and be a nice pitching option. Davis threw an inning of relief sitting 86-90, (T91 this summer and topping 2593 rpm in May; maintaining 2200-2400s rpm via Trackman at FG) to go with a sharp CB at 72-75 (Up to 2600 rpm; maintaining 2000-2400s rpm).

 

Brett Vondohlen, SS, Stewarts Creek, 2022
The 5-foot-10, 175-pound MTSU commit has proven to be a strong offensive middle infielder.  Proportional frame with present strength and some projection.  At the dish, simple stance with toe tap load generating some elite bat speed (Upper 70s-80s mph per Blast).  Swings with intent to do damage, leading to consistent hard contact and high-percentile exit velos (Max: 103.2 mph; Avg: 88.9 mph per Trackman).  Present gap to gap power with poolside upside as he hit multiple long balls to L-CF.  Hit a tape measure solo-shot late vs Indiana in game one, while picking up a single, walk and two RBIs vs Missouri.  Defensively, has the tools to stay at SS as a 7.3-7.4 runner with left side arm strength.  Good footwork with solid hands and clean transitions, can improve on his consistency, but plays hard tending to make an occasional aggressive mistake.  Vondohlen has a strong offensive presence with some run producing capabilities as well as play all three infield positions.  

 

Caleb Anderson, SS/OF, Franklin, 2023
The 5-foot-9, 160-pound utilityman provides a diverse skill set plugging multiple positions defensively while handling the lefty stick at the top of the order.  Lean, athletic frame with some bounce and future projection.  Simple, balance stanced with controlled, smooth stroke and feel for the barrel.  Generates great bat speed (Max: 78.7 mph; Avg: 68.7 mph per Blast) and present gap-to-gap power w/ room to fill out physically.  Strong hit tool picking up two hits in game one, while working two walks, scoring twice, and driving in a run.  Defensively, above average runner at 7.20 with good range and tracking abilities.  Sound footwork, soft hands, with good transitions up the middle while also contributing in the outfield.  Quick, compact arm with good carry on throws while also sitting 82-85 on the bump with a 69-72 mph CB.  

 

Trenton Lyons, C/UTL, Christian Brothers, 2023
The 6-foot-2, 170-pound Ole Miss commit does a little bit of everything including catch, and as a switch-hitter, looked the part handling the bat from both sides of the plate.  Lean, projectable frame with plenty of room to add strength, Lyons has a chance to develop much more power in the coming years.  At the plate, balanced, wider stance with compact load and small stride.  Smooth, flat stroke with feel for the barrel and consistent timing spraying firm line drives to all fields (Max: 90.7 mph; Distance: 310 ft per Trackman). Generates excellent bat speed from both sides (Max: 78.9 mph; Avg: 73.6 mph per Blast) with a touch more upside from the left side.  Defensively, utilized his versatility playing both middle infield positions, catching, and playing all three OF positions.  Behind the dish, well rounded with soft hands and popping just north of 2.00 on throws to 2B.  Sound receiver and blocker with quiet movements, but can take another step with more service time behind the plate.  In the field, good foundation with great footwork and hands. Speed/range play up from 7.44 sixty time to go with a solid arm (82 INF Velo). A young, dynamic athlete with superb tool set to impact games in many different ways for the Rebels at the next level.
