JUCO Crosscheck: March 10

Prep Baseball Report

More JUCO prospect reports from across the country this week…

Jacob Kush, SO, RHP, Northwest Florida Missouri recruit. 5’10” right-hander with big stuff. In-line delivery with a long arm path into a high-¾ slot pitched 88-91 T92 with feel for 3 pitches. Slider is advanced, up to 86 with hard, late depth. Showed to front hip for strike and buried down and away for chase to RHH. Also went back foot to LHH.

Justice Thompson, SO, OF, Northwest Florida North Carolina recruit. Long 6'4"180 pound outfielder. Athletic, rangy body with room to add strength. CF profile - ranges well from gap to gap. Long strider, makes good reads and takes efficient routes. Solid average arm with carry and accuracy. Fluid, above average runner. Long armed right-handed hitter with a mostly pull approach at the plate - causes some swing and miss. When he gets it, he gets it-flashed power tool as he ripped off a pair of pull-side rockets one hooking just foul and the other deep into the trees for a homerun. Wants to get extended and can get long at times with occasional bad contact - will result in a hit or two because of the run tool. Athletic defender with CF profile and strength/speed combination.

Beck Way, SO, RHP, Northwest Florida Louisiana State recruit. Long, athletic 6'4" 200 pounder. Works in-line with a longer arm swing into a 3/4 slot. Lands firm with a clean finish with above average athleticism. Punched out 13 in a complete game victory. Worked up to 96 mph but sat mostly in the 92-94 range with arm side life. Showed fastball to both sides of the plate with solid average command. Changeup was the better of the secondary offerings. Change was 87-88 with quality arm side fade and used to both righties and lefties for swings and misses. Showed feel for a slider 81-82 which played average. Athletic, projectable right-hander with 2 present plus pitches and a possible third.

Antoine Harris, FR, RHP, Mississippi Gulf Coast Long, rangy 6-foot-4, 180-pound athletic frame with room to add strength. Projection right-hander who we’ve seen up to 94 mph. Sat 88-90 T92 this week with average fastball command. Flashed a solid average slider at times but spin can be a little inconsistent. Has always shown feel for the changeup which is still on track flashing quality arm-side fade with average command.

Bryson Ware, SO, SS, Pearl River Auburn recruit. Athletic 6'2", 190 pound frame. Rangy and projectable with plenty of room to add strength. Solid defender at shortstop with average actions. Arm will flash average at times but doesn’t show routinely. The bat is intriguing - really hit in our first look but took his lumps vs. power stuff. Hit tool will come along as he sees more high level stuff. Long levers in the swing which produces strength but does cause some swing and miss. Flashed the  power tool as he cut a 20 mph wind and ran a 2B off the RF wall in our first look. Runs well - better when he gets going. High level athlete with projection and enough athleticism for a move to CF if ever needed.

Josh Day, SO, INF, Copiah Lincoln Missouri recruit. Good looking, athletic body. Every bit of 6'3" 200. Lean with strong build. Showed in game power on a backside HR, 3/4 up the scoreboard but also showed some swing and miss. Swing is not quite there yet but the tool set it present. Defensively, hands work well with plenty of arm and a good clock. Good athlete with enough power potential for a move to a third base and enough athleticism for a shot at centerfield if needed down the road.

Dalton Fowler, SO, LHP, Northwest Mississippi Oklahoma recruit. Long 6'5" 190 pound frame with lots of room to add strength. Worked 4.1 innings with less than his best stuff. Really had to compete and make pitches. Punched out 6 and walked 3. Solid athleticism and repeats delivery. Worked mostly 88-91 mph T93 with the fastball. Command wasn't sharp-lots of small misses with the occasional bad miss. Best fastball looks to be downhill with late life. Flashed occasional arm-side run on 2-seam but saw lots of 4 seam action with finish at the plate. Uses 2 breaking balls. A curveball at 72-74 mph and a slurve at 77-80. The curveball showed good spin with depth for swings and misses. The slurve was hit or miss - some were average some backed up. Also showed a changeup to RHH & LHH at 82-84 mph with slight fade. Projection left-hander with present arm strength. Probably not his best outing but competed well.

Logan Hewitt | Soph. RHP | Roane St CC (TN) “The uncommitted, 6-foot-2, 225-pound righty was impressive and picked up some crucial outs to give Roane State a chance to win it late. Hewitt is utilized as a high leverage back end reliever, but he showed ability to close out games or provide extended length in late innings. Looks to have good steady frame to be a “workhorse” type pitcher, maintaining velocity deep into his outing.  Big FB that comes out the hand clean and beats barrels up in the zone. Mix in a wicked breaking ball with late bit and depth. Feel for fading changeup as nice third offering.” -Colton Provey

Max Rimac | R-Soph RHP | Parkland JC (IL) "The uncommitted 6-foot-1, 175-pound southpaw had a strong start for Parkland yielding 5 base runners in 5 innings of work. Lean, lanky frame w/ long, loose arm from High 3/4 slot.  Sat mid to upper 80s all day, sprinkling a few 89-90 early. Threw two deceptive breaking balls, which tunneled exceptionally off the fastballs. Showed ability to throw for strikes and get S/M on offspeed.  Really challenging matchup for left handed hitters. " -Colton Provey

Riggs Threadgill, SO, RHP, McLennan CC "Uncommitted. Estimated 6-foot-4, 205 pounds. The right-hander throws from a low ¾ slot with a long, quick arm swing. His fastball was sitting 91-92 mph touching 93 mph with arm side run and sink, commanding the ball to both sides of the plate. He also threw a curveball ranging from 79-81 mph with sharp 11/5 action and flashed an 84 mph changeup." - Tyler King

Nathan Artt, R-SO, RHP, Grayson College "Uncommitted. Estimated 6-foot-6, 220 pounds. The right-hander throws from an over the top slot with a long arm swing. His fastball sat 91-92 mph with good life up in the zone. He also throws a 12-6 curveball that was 75-76 mph and flashed a changeup at 86 mph." - Tyler King
