At 6-foot-2, 195 pounds Day is an athletic-bodied talent who possesses a high ceiling. There is rawness to his game and he needs more reps at game speed to polish his skills. His pre-game actions at shortstop were athletic and fluid. At second base during game play those actions became indecisive at times, with a less confident throwing motion and less accuracy to his average arm strength. He’s an average runner underway and his hands work well on the dirt. He has the potential to become a better than average defender at the keystone. Offensively, he showed good balance, a quiet approach and near average bat speed. Day’s at-bats were inconsistent, expanding the zone and hitting around the baseball during a couple of plate appearances, then showing the ability to stay inside the baseball and drive it the other way with a 100 mph exit velocity on a double into the right center gap. He has the risk/reward profile of a Day Three draft candidate, yet Day Two is certainly achievable if he continues to develop and gets to his power with high-level performance this spring.
