Florida Summer Championships

The PBRT 17U Florida Summer Championships kicked off Thursday, June 30th at Twin Lakes Park in Sarasota with action from the 17U divisions. The event is four days long with champions decided on Sunday. Each day we will highlight standouts with a daily scout blog. Take a look at Day 1's notes.

Zachary Banks OF / 1B / Seabreeze , FL / 2023

Lean, athletic frame. Quiet/calm presence. Compact swing w/ level path.

Reuben Barron Jr. RHP / The Villages Charter, FL / 2023

Rankings StateRank: 156 / POS: 33

6-foot-5, 260 pounds. FB up to 92 mph. Feel for CH flashing arm side run. Gradual breaking ball. Heavy FB, held at 89-91 range. Spotty control.

Daniel Cepeda 1B / Coral park high school, FL / 2022

Tall thinner frame, room for physical growth. Smooth left handed swing, hit a double to dead center that burned the center fielder’s head. Burnt the right fielder with another rbi double later in the day.

Anthony Devita RHP / OF / Apopka, FL / 2023

Rankings StateRank: 238 / POS: 41

6-foot-1, 170 pounds. Lean, athletic right hander working in the low 80s. Fast, short arm action. 3 pitches for strikes. More velo will come as he adds strength.

David Hickey C / 3B / Father Lopez, FL / 2023

Rankings StateRank: 210 / POS: 31

Strong bodied frame. Balanced throughout as he consistently finds barrels. Good uncommitted 2023 to follow.

DYLAN HUDSON 2B / OF / Legion Collegiate, SC / 2023

Lean and athletic frame. Efficient mover with quick hands. Present zone awareness. Smoked an RBI double on Thursday.

Logan Hughes 1B / OF / Winter Springs, FL / 2023

Rankings StateRank: 27 / POS: 2 OverallRank: 196 / POS: 3

Stetson recruit. 6-foot, 190 pounds. Hughes continues to be an above average hitter. Drove a pitch to deep LCF for a standup 3B w/ extension working a level path. Bat speed plays.

Ethan Hummel LHP / Orangewood Christian, FL / 2023

Rankings StateRank: 186 / POS: 26

5-foot-11, 175 pound athletic frame. Loose arm action from H3/4 arm slot. Displays a rhythmic/consistent delivery while landing squarely. Attacks zone w/ heavy FB w/ life and ASR. Mixes in a natural, sharp CB. Good uncommitted southpaw.

Irvin Leonard 1B / 3B / Little Elm, TX / 2023

Large, advanced physical frame. Fluid, compact actions. Level path w/ loft. Power potential and looks to drive the gaps.

Blake Lindsey 3B / Princeton, TX / 2023

Tall, lengthy frame. Loose/fluid left handed swing. Creates leverage in the path. Like the offensive tools.

Josiah Martinez OF / TNXL Academy, FL / 2023

Athletic, lean physical frame. Short, compact swing. On time/in rhythm. Quick out of the box.

Jacob McKenzie C / 3B / Winter Springs, FL / 2023

Rankings StateRank: 120 / POS: 12

Stocky frame with strength. Ability to use the whole field. Above average defender behind the plate. Future Games alum and one of top uncommitted catchers available.

Dawson Mock SS / 2B / Lafayette, FL / 2023

Rankings StateRank: 80 / POS: 21

USF commit found barrels all day long. Multiple hits on the day including a triple. Leadoff hitter and tone setter for Gatorball.

Trevor Murray 2B / 2B / Forest High School, FL / 2023

Athletic frame. Present bat speed. Line drive approach, works gap to gap.

Carter Parks 2B / RHP / The Villages Charter School, FL / 2023

5-foot-8, 180 pounds. Stocky frame right hander up to 86 mph. Arm works clean. Drop and drive with good use of the lower half. Generates weak contact. Worked four strong innings for Gatorball.

Jake Richardson OF / Melbourne, FL / 2023

Rankings StateRank: 48 / POS: 9 OverallRank: 363 / POS: 53

Richardson is one of the top uncommitted '23s in the state. Above average runner, plays a quality center field. Offensively showed his above average bat speed with a double to the gap.

Diego Santos C / Southwest Senior High, FL / 2024

Strong frame, loose hands. Multiple hits and RBI on the day. Looks to do damage.

Garrett Smith 1B / OF / Eau Gallie , FL / 2023

Rankings StateRank: 100 / POS: 6

6-foot-1, 215 pounds. USF recruit came into relief for Giants Scout Team. Physical southpaw misses barrels with the FB. Heavy arm side run up to 88 mph. Breaking ball flashes sharp.

Joey Wimpelberg RHP / SS / Winter Springs, FL / 2023

Rankings StateRank: 97 / POS: 19

UCF recruit. 6-foot-1, 175 pounds. 5 K’s over 4 IP, FB flashed arm side run from H 3/4 arm slot. Big breaker at times for strikes and downer action to glove side at 2300 rpm.
