Team Summary

Coach Kelly Mead and his Kingwood Mustangs look to make a return to the playoffs again in 2022 after finishing 2nd in District 21-6A and advancing to the 2nd round of playoffs. Coach Mead returns a group of seven players from last year’s squad with the most experience coming on the mound. Returning on the mound are 1st-team All-District 2022 RHP Ryan McClish (Bossier Parish JC) and 2023 RHP John Hebert (Texas State), who were both district starters in 2021, and 2023 RHP Josh Pelfrey. Coach Mead returns three bats in the lineup from last year in 2024 SS Braelon Richardson (South Alabama) making the move across the middle infield from 2B, 2022 1B/DH Paxton Singleton (Midland College), and 2nd-team All-District 2022 2B/OF Ashton Rodriguez. Also returning this year is 2022 UTL/RHP Jack Bruckbauer who could see time anywhere on the diamond and get some innings on the mound. With only four returning bats, Kingwood will have a few spots to fill in the lineup. Look for newcomers 2023 3B Ian Carlson, 2023 OF Ty Boatright, 2022 C Matthew De Leon (Dallas Christian commit), 2024 C Cole Brewer, 2024 OF Davis Brewer to potentially make an impact in the lineup. Also, look for 2023 RHP David Ward to contribute to an experienced pitching staff for the Mustangs in 2022.
