The 2024 Texas high school baseball season is quickly approaching and, as usual, excitement is abound throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Texas.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Austin at the UIL State Tournament in June, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Texas. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, eventually releasing our Preseason Power 30 rankings that’ll carry us into the opening week of action.

TEAM OUTLOOK

The Huffman-Hargrave Falcons and Coach Andrew Walker return a young and exciting team in 2024. The 2023 4A Area Finalists will look to their pitching depth, defense, and team speed to carry them throughout the season. The Falcons will be led by recent Centenary College commit, RHP/UTL Treyson Martin, who looks to play a big part as a two-way player in 2024. The Falcons return another Senior pitcher from last season in LHP Logan Gruber (uncommitted), as well as Senior OF Dylan McMullen (uncommitted).

A pair of Junior infielders will look to make their mark on the 2024 season as newcomers in 1B Will Swartz (uncommitted) and INF Chance Fields (uncommitted). A duo of versatile Sophomores hopeful to play a big role on varsity this season are RHP/UTL Ryder Miller and OF/C Avry Cordell. Speaking of the Falcons’ Sophomore class, they will also be returning Missouri commit RHP/C John Dolan, and 2026 INF/RHP Bryce Nixon, who played on varsity last season as a Freshman. Dolan, who is currently ranked No. 14 in the state for his class and No. 100 nationally, is a well-proportioned catcher that is also athletic enough to be a factor in the outfield with his strong arm (86 mph) to pair.

Coach Walker will have some exciting pieces to build around for this year and for future years, with the Falcons again being a team to watch come postseason play in 2024.
