Ryan Karst RHP / OF / Brookfield East, WI / 2022

At 6-foot-3, 195-pounds with the athleticism to run a 6.79 60-yard dash, Karst has the natural foundation to make considerable advancements in the near future. Featuring some defined strength throughout a highly projectable frame, especially in the lower-half, Karst still shows signs of adding to it in the future. The right-hander was up to 89 mph in a preseason bullpen where he showcased a polished delivery and quick arm. Remaining compact throughout, the arm works fluidly through a medium-sized arm stroke before getting extended out front as the ball jumps out of the hand and again at the plate. Quality posture down the mound allows him to find a consistent high ¾ slot enabling for plenty of strikes with both a faded changeup (75-79) and curveball (69-71). The feel for all three pitches in the zone will likely interest college coaches to the possibility of him continuing as a starter at the next level, and though the breaking ball is still developing some, there is aptitude for spin, and his athleticism will likely allow for quick adjustments to be made sooner rather than later. Combining his ability to pitch with the strength he shows at the plate and as a position player, and Karst could potentially slot as a two-way prospect over time. His flat path and quick hands provide for consistently firm contact, and there is a chance he hits for power. Overall, Karst’s winter workouts have cemented him as a must-see, uncommitted player when action picks up again.
