Cy Ranch vs. Cy Woods

CYPRESS, TX - No. 4 Cy Ranch hosted district rival Cy Woods on Tuesday night in a district 14-6A matchup.

Cy Woods opened up the game with three runs in the 1st on RBI from 2019 C Luke Nagy (No. 228 in 2019 PBR Texas rankings, committed to Mary-Hardin Baylor), 2019 OF Cullen Sherrill and 2020 3B Brett Velzis. 2019 SS Justin Wishkoski added an RBI double in the 2nd along with Nagy getting his 2nd RBI of the night on a suicide squeeze in the 6th.

Offensively for Cy Ranch, they were led by 2020 1B Fabian Mayfield (No. 106 in 2020 PBR Texas rankings) who was 3-3 with a double, triple and two RBI and 2019 RHP/OF Matthew Thompson (No. 5 in 2019 PBR Texas rankings, No. 16 in 2019 PBR overall rankings and No. 34 in 2019 PBR Draft rankings; committed to Texas A&M) who had two doubles and two RBI. Mayfield and Thompsonstarted the 6th inning comeback while 2019 SS Jake Combs (No. 67 in 2019 PBR Texas rankings, committed to Louisiana-Lafayette) had an RBI single to tie the game and 2019 2B Ross Thurwalkerhad an RBI double to take the lead in the 6th.

On the bump for Cy Woods was 2019 LHP Dylan Bourgeois (No. 338 in 2019 PBR Texas rankings, committed to Angelina JC) getting the start. He went 5+ innings allowing four runs on six hits and three walks with two strikeouts, mixing a low 80’s fastball with a big curveball.

Matthew Thompson, RHP, Cy Ranch, 2019
Texas A&M commit. Estimated 6-foot-3, 180-pound lanky, athletic frame. The right-hander worked from a high ¾ slot with a quick, short arm swing. His fastball was 92-94 mph early on and was 91-93 in his last inning of work. He threw a slider that was 77-80 mph with 11-5 shape and was able to get swing and miss with it. He also flashed a changeup that was 84-85 mph with late arm-side run.
