Englert Leads Forney To 4-0 Victory

Toby Bicknell
Texas Scouting Director

MESQUITE, TX - The Forney Jackrabbits traveled over to West Mesquite for an early 4pm tee time and district matchup on Friday. Forney has one of the top starting rotations in Texas with LHP Jonathan Childress, who we saw early this spring, and 2018 RHP Mason Englert. Both Englert and Childress both committed to Texas A&M, and both are ranked at the top of the Texas 2018 Class, as well as the PBR HS Draft 100.

The storyline was all Englert, who threw a complete game shutout, allowing just one-hit, and two-total baserunners.

The Jackrabbits got on the board in the top of the third when Sean Stephens drove in a run with an base-hit push bunt to score Austin Ream. They got two more in the fourth with a passed ball, then an RBI single by Brendan Williams.

That was all the offense that Englert would need, who used only 85 pitches to face two batters over the minimum. The senior dominated the strike zone with 74% strikes, struck out fifteen batters, and walked none. Final Score: Forney 4, West Mesquite 0.
