Saturday, May 6

MARSHALL, TX - Marshall’s Ty Kirkland (TJC Commit) and Highland Park’s Grant Kipp were locked in a 2-2 pitchers duel until the 7th inning. Kirkland gave up two run on five hits and punched out five batters in 5.2  innings. The Tyler JC recruit had a solid three-pitch mix (fastball, curveball and changeup).

For most of the game Highland Park’s starting pitcher Grant Kipp was in control, using a firm fastball with a sharp slider. In the third inning, Marshall landed two base runners on an infield hit and an error. Trevor Clark drilled a two-RBI base hit to left field to plate both runs.

Highland Park got two runs in the third inning when Benner Page and Will Adair reached on walks, and Kipp bunted them over. Patrick Shearer drove in both runners on an RBI-double.  Kirkland settled in after the third, and did not allow another run.

Kirkland ended up being the offensive hero of the day when he blasted a grand slam in the top of the 7th inning for the game winning hit. Hunter Neal closed out the game for Marshall.

Final Score, Marshall 6, Highland Park 3.

Highland Park would go on to win Game 3 and advance to the next round of the Texas High School Playoffs. They will play Prosper this weekend in a very anticipated Area Matchup.
