Houston Fall I.D.: Outfield Analysis

Texas Scouting Director

THE WOODLANDS, TX - On October 14, Prep Baseball Report Texas hosted an open event at College Park HS. Here is the catching analysis from that event.

OUTFIELDERS

Darrion Eddie, OF, Tomball HS, 2019
Eddie has super projectable, lean-muscular frame at 6-foot-3, 180-pounds. The right-handed hitter uses his long levers to generate significant extension through contact with natural feel to hit as he keeps his hands back and delivers the head with authority, including two home runs at the end of batting practice. Posted an exit velocity 88 mph off the tee. In the outfield, he plays through the ball with athletic footwork and quick exchange. Accurate arm to the dish with a top velocity of 85 mph. For college recruiters looking for athleticism and upside in the outfield, I could see Eddie adding even more power as he hits the weight room. Ran a 7.12 60-yard dash.

Nolan Troy, OF/RHP, Oak Ridge HS, 2020
Troy has a strong, athletic frame at 6-foot-1, 165-pounds. He started the day with a 6.94 60-yard dash, then posted a top exit velocity of 95 mph with raw stregnth at the plate. The right-handed hitter starts from a slightly open stance with high hands and flex in his lower half. Sits into his legs to load as he triggers his hands back and down into a front arm bar, then takes a short stride, landing square. Works on an uphill path through the zone, strong contact as he rotates to finish high. Top spun balls to the pull side, carry to the opposite field gap. In the outfield, Troy threw 85 mph to the plate.

Noah Pate, OF, Sweeny HS, 2022
Pate has a fast-twitch, athletic frame at 5-foot-9, 140-pounds. The right-handed hitter has quick hands with lag in the barrel through the zone that creates carry in the middle of the field with a top exit velocity of 84 mph. Barreled it up during BP, making hard contact and showing barrel awareness. In the outfield, he plays aggressively through the ball with smooth footwork, soft hands, relaxed exchange and a quick arm stroke that produced a top velocity of 74 mph. Ran a 7.2 60-yard dash.

Clay Erwin, OF/RHP, Clear Creek HS, 2020
Erwin has a relatively strong frame at 6-foot-1, 185-pounds, and has enough fast-twitch to run a 7.02 60-yard dash. The left-handed hitter starts from a tall stance with a flat bat over his back shoulder. Uses a short leg lift to stride forward as he tilts his shoulders and triggers his hands down, engaging the barrel straight up. The barrel slots into the zone, working on an upward plane through contact with a top exit velocity of 82 mph. In the outfield, Erwin threw with a top velocity of 82 mph.

Max Raven, OF, Clements HS, 2019
6-foot, 165-pounds. Started the day by posting a 7.11 60-yard dash. The left-handed hitter starts from a tall, balanced stance with relaxed rhythm in his hands. Pushes back with a reverse leg lift as he triggers his hands, then strides forward. Short, quick path to the ball with a flat finish, he peppered the ball to the opposite field gap with a top exit velocity of 81 mph. In the outfield, Raven plays through the ball with soft hands, smooth footwork and an athletic crow hop into a quick arm stroke. Threw with outstanding carry and accuracy with a top velocity of 86 mph.

Rawley Flora, OF, Clear Creek HS, 2020
5-foot-10, 145-pounds, quick-twitch frame. Started the day with a 7.3 60-yard dash. The right-handed hitter starts from a balanced stance then sits down as he triggers his hands and strides forward. Flat path through the zone with an inside-out approach and high finish produced a top exit velocity of 77 mph. Really good arm strength from the outfield (87 mph) as he plays through the ball with quickish footwork.
