Plano Comes From Behind To Defeat McKinney

Toby Bicknell
Texas Scouting Director

MCKINNEY, TX - The McKinney Lions hosted the Plano Wildcats on Friday night. McKinney had rolled through the early non-district season with twelve wins, but have yet to win a district game. Plano came into the game with a 2-1 district record and looking to move forward in a very competitive district. The Lions were on the offensive early, jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning on back-to-back RBI singles from Murphy Bostick and Josh Bostick. Junior left-hander Ryan Hallstrom kept the Plano hitters off balance for two innings, pounding the strike zone and getting weak outs.

Plano got a run in the third, and McKinney answered with a run in the bottom half of the inning. In the top of the fourth, Plano 2020 2B Cole Foster (TCU commit) hit a no-doubter home run to left field to bring the Wildcats within one. Score 3-2.

McKinney junior left-hander Ryan Hallstrom cruised through his first two innings, before allowing single runs in the third and fourth inning. Hallstrom was lifted in the fifth after a leadoff walk, and the Lions went to the bullpen for right-hander Preston Arnold. After a ground out and a walk, Plano got an RBI double from Jonathan Huff and scored again on a wild pitch to take a 5-3 lead. The Wildcats would not look back, scoring a single run in the sixth on a passed ball, and another in the seventh on an RBI single from 2019 3B Anderson Acinger.

Reliever Quentin Frederick sealed the victory on the mound for Plano with three scoreless innings, allowing no runs on one hit while striking out four. Final Score: Plano 7, McKinney 3.
