SEASON PREVIEW
The Chargers return a strong pitching staff from a team that won 25 games last year, headlined by two senior right-handers, both committed to D1 schools. 2018 RHP Jack Neely, a Texas commit, stands 6-foot-9 and has been run his fastball up as high as 93 recently at the Prep Baseball Report Super 60. Last year Neely finished with a 5-0 record, 37 K's, and a 1.69 ERA. 2018 RHP Landry Wideman, a Texas A&M commit, was 6-3 last year, with a 1.69 ERA and 61 K's. Keep an eye out for 2018 RHP Carlos Flores. The Houston commit could add depth to the rotation, or see significant innings out of the pen.
Returning to the lineup is 2019 OF/LHP Hudson Head, who hit .412 and drove in 24 runs last year. Head, a two-way player could also see time on the bump. 2018 OF Andy DeLeon batted .330 and scored 25 runs in 2017. 2018 Kevin Fleisher is a Texas A&M Corpus Christi commit that will most likely hold down the hot corner at 3B. Up the middle, the Chargers have several options, including 2B Sam Serchay, and 2020 2B/C Jesse Herrera.
If Churchill can find a way to score enough runs, they could have another strong season in 2018.
