Prosper vs. McKinney Boyd

Toby Bicknell
Texas Scouting Director

MCKINNEY, TX - Coming into tonights game the Prosper Eagles and McKinney Boyd Broncos were tied at 2nd Place in District with 5-1 records. Prosper is ranked No. 9 in the PBR Texas Power 25 at 20-4 Overall, while McKinney Boyd was 16-7.

As far as quality ballgames go, this was a great game to scout, with solid pitching commanding the first five innings. 2020 LHP Chad Brown (Louisiana-Lafayette commit) had four strikeouts through the first two innings and finished the night with 6 total. While 2019 RHP Caleb Putnam (Hill JC commit) used three double plays (1st, 4th, 5th) to throw up five zero’s in the first five frames.

In the top of the sixth, Dalton Davis led of with a single to left field, then stole second, going first move off of Brown. A QAB ground ball to second from 2019 C Luke Johnson moved Davis over to third, and 2019 DH Adam Sheriff singled through a drawn in infield to put Prosper up 1-0. After an Easton Robbins single and two HBP’s, Prosper went up 2-0. Then 2021 2B Chase Pendley grounded into a fielders choice for an RBI. Prosper 3, Boyd 0.

The Broncos answered with a run in the bottom half when 2021 CF Tyler Collins (Oklahoma State) laced a triple to left-centerfield, then Jack Brinley hammered a sac fly to centerfield to score Collins.

But the story of the night was Prosper starting pitcher 2019 Caleb Putnam, who used his sinking fastball to get nine ground ball outs, including three double balls. The Hill JC commit needed only 103 pitches to record the complete game victory for the Eagles, allowing only one earned run on five hits, one walk, and striking out five.
