TEXAS - As we wait for the high school season to get underway, PBR Texas is going to be doing Q&A's with some of the top players in the State. We will be discussing their recruiting process and their upcoming High School Season.
Today we catch up with 2023 the big 6'8 RHP. Shores has plenty of present talent as well as future projection. We have seen him up to 95 with a repeatable, athletic delivery.
OUR Q&A
PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? What were you looking for out of a college program to continue your baseball career at?
Shores: I wanted a coaching staff that put in a lot of effort to recruit me and build a relationship with me.
P: Did location or distance from home play a factor in your decision?
S: Not at all. Either route I take after high school I will be far away from home.
P: When did the recruiting process really start to heat up for you? Where did the school you committed to first see you play?
S: My first recruitment process was less hectic then my newest recruiting process. I originally committed to OSU. The coaches there noticed a bullpen video of me on twitter and ended up offering with a couple of other schools. I ended up decommitng this past summer. I was a total different pitcher this time so I started getting tons of calls and things got hectic. LSU saw me all over the country this past summer and thought I was a good fit and I ended up going with them.
P: What do you like most about the program you chose, and what were the key factors in making your decision?
S: Coaching staff. Relationships. People.
P: What other schools were on your short list before you made your final decision?
S: Texas, Arkansas, Texas A&M
P: Who is the best player you have faced in your state? What about them makes for a tough opponent?
S: Teo Banks. He was a 2021 grad and plays for Tulane. He had really quick hands and good timing with the bat.
P: At what point in your career did you realize you were a college-caliber player and became serious about taking your game to the next level?
S: Freshman year I noticed I was really good and knew if I worked hard I could get to the point I am at right now.
P: What advice would you give to young baseball players striving to get where you are?
S: Outwork everyone and have no belief what so ever in how others look at you and judge you just go out there and silence them all with your success.
P: What is the most memorable moment in your baseball career to this point?
S: Hitting a go ahead grand slam last spring in playoffs.
P: Preview your high school team's season for us. How do you feel your team will be?
S: We are a very young team with a new coach and few returning starters but we have been working hard and preparing towards the season. We have great chemistry and I am excited to lead this young team and to see what we are made out of come February.
