SAN ANTONIO - The top two 27-6A teams, the Jaguars of Johnson High School and the Rattlers of Reagan High School, met for the second time this season at Blossom Athletic Complex on Friday. Both teams entered the contest having only one loss to their records. In their previous meeting, Reagan secured an extra innings victory 4-1 following an extreme game of pitcher’s tug-o-war. The aces for each team toed the rubber once again, this time, however, the excitement was over the staunch defense of both squads and some timely hitting in the late at-bats for Reagan that snatched up a 1-0 win.

Travis Sthele, Reagan’s right-handed 2020 Texas commit, and Nathan Dettmer, Johnson’s lanky 2020 RHP who is committed to Texas A&M, pitched neck and neck with efficiency in the contest. Both pitchers tallied four strikeouts and issued two walks apiece.
Sthele, the No. 6 ranked junior in the state was 90-91, topping 92, with his fastball in the first inning, but he sat in the 86-89 range the majority of the game. His showed both of his breaking balls, an over the top curveball and a slider with heavy lateral actions. The slider, being his primary breaking ball, was 78-82, and the curveball was 70-74. Sthele was highly efficient with his pitches, finishing his complete-game effort on just 89 pitches. He recorded 6 ground outs and seven fly-ball outs.
