PLANO, TX - John Paul II took the first game over Prestonwood (ranked No. 20 in the PBR Texas Power 25 Rankings) 7-1 on Tuesday, handing the Lions only their third loss of the season. On Friday, we had a chance to catch the second game of this series, featuring the No. 14 ranked player in the Texas 2020 Rankings, and TCU commit, RHP Luke Savage take the mound for Prestonwood Christian Academy.

Prestonwood got on the board in the second when Garrett Belding drove in two runs with a hard shot single through the right side. Then Savage followed with an RBI fielders choice 2K ground ball, and Ryan Patterson hit a scud by the JP2 SS. 4-0 PCA.

In the third, the Lions added two more runs on a no-doubter home run down the right field line from 2020 River Ridings. 6-0 PCA.

That was all the run support Luke Savage would need, as he was in control of the game from his first pitch to his last. The TCU commit threw a complete game shutout, tallying 10 strikeouts and not allowing a walk. He carried a no-hiiter into the 6th inning, allowing the first JP2 hit with two outs. With the win, PCA moves to 22-3, 3-1 District. With the loss, John Paul II is now 13-9-1, 4-2 District.

SCOUT NOTES

Luke Savage, RHP, Prestonwood Christian, 2020
TCU commit. Approximately 5-foot-10, 170-pounds with an athletic, lean-muscular frame. The right-hander works from a high-¾ slot with a long arm stroke, short stride down the mound and athletic finish. Creates significant hand speed out front, topping out with his fastball at 91 mph, sitting mostly 89-90 in the first three innings. His breaking ball is a plus pitch with tight rotation and late, sharp 11/5 action at 77-79. He was able to get a ton of swings and misses and record multiple punchouts. Showed quality stamina throughout the seven inning complete game, still pumping 87-89 in the 5th inning, and still creating high spin rates on his breaking ball. Recorded ten strikeouts, didnt walk a soul, and carried a no-hitter through 5.2 innings.
