SOUTHLAKE, TX - The Lewisville Farmers traveled to Southlake Friday night to take on the Dragons of Carroll High. Senior right-hander Ben Miller, a Ouachita Baptist commit, took the mound for Lewisville. While sophomore left-hander Cutter Sippell would get the ball for Southlake Carroll.

Both starters cruised through the first four innings. In the top of the fifth, Lewisville right fielder Alan West reached on an error, and moved up to second base after a botched rundown. After a Steely Gill base hit bunt, the Farmers had runners on 1st and 3rd, no outs. Cutter Sippel would strike out the next batter he faced on a breaking ball, one out. Southlake ran a nifty bunt defense to hold West at third base and get the second out of the inning. Lewisville still had two-on and two outs. But Sippel got another huge strikeout to end the inning and keep the game scoreless.

Lewisville would threaten again in the sixth. Centerfielder Patrick Bethea reached on a hit-by-pitch. The Farmers sacrificed him over to second, then sophomore Caleb Vuono nailed a first pitch curveball through the middle to score Bethea, 1-0 Farmers. With two outs, the Dragons called upon right-handed reliever Nicco Cole. Cole was able to get a weak pop-up for the last out of the inning.

In the bottom half of the sixth, Carroll senior Wyatt Stapp led off with a single through the right side, then was lifted for pinch runner William Quillen. Quillen moved up to second and third base on two passed balls. With one out, Quillen scored on the third passed ball of the inning. After a walk and a strikeout, Nik Millsap came to the plate for Carroll. Millsap hammered a deep fly ball down the left field line; fair-or-foul, fair-or-foul (enter Carlton Fisk emoji) - Foul Ball! On the next pitch, Lewisville starter Ben Miller would retire Millsap to send the Farmers to the 7th inning, still tied 1-1.

Nicco Cole worked a scoreless top of the seventh for the Dragons. Left-handed reliever Angelo Gennari entered the game for Lewisville to face the top of the Carroll lineup. Leadoff hitter Jake Murphy made his fifth-and final plate appearance. With a 3-2 count, the senior shortstop scorched a home run deep into the Texas night for a walk off 2-1 victory.
