2018 UIL Team Preview: Alto

PBR Texas Staff

The Texas high school season kicks off on February 19, the first day for regular season games. Most teams will begin practicing on January 26, getting their rosters set and finalizing their lineups.

Over the next several weeks, leading up to opening day, we will be rolling out team previews of high school teams all across the state and across all classifications, eventually launching our Preseason Power 25.

We have been sending out our annual Preseason Questionnaire to coaches all across the state and as the responses flood in we will bring you a snapshot of what to expect along with top players and keys to success for that particular team. If you don’t see your team’s season preview make sure your head coach fills out his Preseason Questionnaire.

SEASON PREVIEW

Coach Wes King returns eight starters and five pitchers from a 20-win team a season ago. It goes without saying the Yellowjackets are in good position to exceed their win total and playoff run from last season. Coach King will look for his returnees, that include six 2017 First Team All-District selections (Hunter Bush, Charles Morgan, Cameron Cox, Alex McIntyre, Harmon West, Foster Hall), the 2017 District Newcomer of the Year (Todd Duplichain), and Texas A&M recruit OF Hunter Townsend to pick up right where they left off. Townsend, ranked No. 51 in Texas 2018 Class, has high end bat speed and game changing speed on the bases (6.68 60-yard dash). Expectations are high for this group as they have the pitching depth and defensive capabilities to hang with the best.
